Harald Torbjörn Gabriel Jakob Kinde (born on October 30, 1958), known as Jakob Kinde, is a Swedish entrepreneur, investment banker, and philanthropist renowned for his contributions across multiple sectors, encompassing corporate finance, technology incubation, and renewable energy. He holds the positions of founder and chairman in entities such as Fearnley & Kinde Limited, F&K Renewables Limited, Noble Tree Foundation and Kinde & Co Limited. Furthermore, Kinde serves as Chairman for Boustead & Co. Ltd. and Boustead Agriculture Ltd.[1]

With a career spanning over four decades in investment banking, Kinde has completed diverse corporate finance transactions exceeding a cumulative value of $80 billion. He has held advisory and consulting roles in several organizations, including Samuel Montagu & Co. Ltd., Kleinwort Benson, NewMedia Investors Ltd., Libertas Capital, and Fortnom & Co.[2]

Kinde is actively engaged in philanthropy, co-founding and chairing the UK-registered charity Noble Tree Foundation, with a dedicated focus on supporting vulnerable individuals. He also plays a significant role as co-founder and editor of the Swedish history website "Det Gamla Göteborg."

Early life and education

Kinde was born Harald Torbjörn Gabriel Jakob Kinde in Gothenburg, Sweden, to Kurt Kinde and Ninni Enell. He spent his early years in Sweden and Portugal before settling in England in his late teens. From 1964 to 1979, Kinde attended several institutions, including Askim Skolor in Sweden, St. Julian's School in Carcavelos, Portugal, Restenäs Boarding School in Sweden, and Edward Greene's Tutorial Establishment in Oxford, England.

Kinde earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy and economics from the University College of London in 1982. He then enrolled in the Samuel Montagu graduate training course at the London Business School in 1982 to further his studies in financial accounting and management. In 1983, he obtained a Certified Diploma in Accountancy and Finance (C.Dip.A.F.) from The Certified Accountants Educational Trust and became a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (M.C.S.I.).

Career

Kinde started his career in 1982 at Samuel Montagu & Co. Ltd., where he led corporate finance initiatives in London and Stockholm. In 1985, he established Carnegie Montagu AB, a joint venture between Samuel Montagu & Co. Limited and Carnegie Fondkommission AB.

In 1983, Kinde founded Fil à Fil Limited, a retail enterprise specializing in shirts. The company operated 12 stores in London and franchise stores in Dublin, Glasgow, and Brighton. In 1987, the company was sold to Next plc.

From September 1987 to 1999, Kinde held positions at Kleinwort Benson. His roles included Managing Director and Head of Nordic Corporate Finance, overseeing equity new issues and IPOs, and mergers and acquisitions. His expertise extended across various sectors, including financial services, engineering, technology, renewable energy, and forestry.

In 1988, Kinde founded The Metropolis Property Company Limited, a property investment and rental firm, which he managed until its sale in 1995.

In 1999, Kinde became a director, shareholder, and co-founder of NewMedia Investors Ltd. and NewMedia Spark plc, a pioneering incubator for technology and internet companies.

In September 1999, he co-founded EO plc, an online share distribution platform for technology companies' equity fundraising, incubated under Spark Ventures plc. Kinde also co-founded AllIPO plc, which later acquired EO plc's business and technology platform.

In November 2002, Kinde established Libertas Capital and served as the Executive Chairman of Libertas Capital Group plc from 2003 to 2009. Subsequently, he assumed the role of senior partner at Libertas Partners LLP until August 2011. Libertas Capital specializes in technology, clean technology, and renewable energy, maintaining regulated subsidiaries across global financial centers.

In 2011, Kinde became the Chairman of Corporate Finance and Investments at Fortnom & Co. Limited. In 2017, he joined Göteborg Corporate Finance as a senior consultant. Additionally, he served as a senior advisor at European American Capital Group Limited from 2013 to August 2023.

Since July 2012, Kinde has held the position of Chairman at Boustead Agriculture Limited, and since December 2013, he has served as Chairman of Boustead & Co Limited, an asset management and corporate finance institution founded by Edward Boustead in Singapore in 1828.

In 2014, Kinde founded Kinde & Co. Limited, a London-based management consultancy firm specializing in renewable energy, clean technology, health technology, and property (housing). The company maintains an investment portfolio that includes a significant shareholding in Fearnley & Kinde Limited.

In 2020, Kinde established Fearnley & Kinde Limited as the parent company, overseeing subsidiaries and associated firms in renewable energy, clean technology, health technology, and property (housing). Fearnley & Kinde Limited is active in renewable energy and housing through F&K Renewables Limited and the creative industries through F&K Creative Limited.

F&K Renewables Limited, previously known as Boustead Renewables Limited, was founded in July 2017, with its headquarters in London. The company focuses on identifying, researching, sourcing, and introducing suitable renewable energy projects. With associate offices in the USA, Africa, and Southeast Asia, FKR focuses on providing corporate consultancy and advisory services to developers in the renewables sector, including solar PV, onshore wind, geothermal WTE, hydro biomass, and infrastructure-related innovations.

Philanthropy

In 2016, Kinde founded Noble Tree Housing Limited, which is now wholly owned by Noble Tree Foundation Limited, a UK-registered charity co-founded and chaired by Kinde since 2003. The foundation helps vulnerable individuals secure housing and support to live independent and dignified lives.

Kinde is a co-founder and editor of "Det Gamla Göteborg," a Swedish history website launched in 2014. The website is dedicated to the history of Gothenburg and covers topics such as finances, trading houses, companies, families, people, personalities, donors, donations, old houses, and more. It features pictures, articles, and genealogical charts and has become one of Sweden's most vibrant history platforms, consistently drawing between 20,000 and 30,000 unique visitors each month.
