Indiana Gregg (born August 12, 1971) is a British-American tech entrepreneur, singer, and songwriter based in Glasgow, Scotland. She is the founder and CEO of Wedo, a commission-free freelance social network.[1] Gregg has also served various companies in executive and non-executive roles and has founded several tech startups, such as Digital Unicorns, Kerchoonz Ltd., Cosmetic Laboratory of Europe, Eventous, and Gr8pop.[2][3]
Gregg garnered fame and recognition as a singer and songwriter with the release of her debut album "Woman at Work." Her music featured elements of pop, soul, and folk. Gregg's other hit releases include Tonight, One of Us, and Sweet Things.[4]
Early life and education
Gregg was born and raised in Terre Haute, Indiana. In her youth, she suffered from a speech impediment. She underwent years of speech therapy, during which her therapist asked her to compose poetry to practice singing at home to overcome the issue. Gregg asserts that her therapist pushed her to participate in music and is responsible for her growth as a musician and artist. Gregg is known to have composed her first song at age 5, about her cat, Herbert, who was hit by a train.
Gregg won an all-American title and the National Dance Association championship in Dallas, Texas, in 1991.
In 1992, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in science from Indiana State University. During her graduation, she was a member of numerous clubs and associations and participated in several activities such as Zeta Tau Alpha, Alumni Scholarship, ISU Cheer Team, and Song Girls, Student Government. In 1993, Gregg relocated to Europe. In 1999, She enrolled in Grenoble Ecole de Management to pursue a master's in marketing management.
Career
As an entrepreneur
Gregg's professional career began in 1994 when she moved to Southern France and lived there for 12 years.[5]
In 1999, Gregg established Digital Unicorns, a digital media agency based in Delaware, USA. As the company's CEO, Gregg focused on providing brand development, website & application development, digital media strategy, public relations, and startup incubator services to businesses.[6][7][8]
In 2002, Gregg started working as a digital communications consultant at Sony.
In 2005, Gregg founded Kerchoonz Ltd., a social networking website described as "A Modern Record Deal" for bands and artists. At Kerchoonz, music fans have free access to music, and bands and artists get paid for each stream they listen to via an advertising share they receive from the site. Kerchoonz emerged as a global marketplace that connects artists and bands to record labels, managers, venues, and vendors. The platform also offers a shop for bands, allowing them to sell their digital downloads and physical CDs, T-shirts, and gear through social networking profiles on the site and K-Ching, an online direct sale and auction marketplace.[9]
In 2011, Gregg started as the non-executive director and founder of the Cosmetic Laboratory of Europe (CLOE). CLOE offers branding, packaging, and international export services to beauty brands such as GRUV, Ultimate, and Ultrallac.[10]
In October 2019, Gregg established Wedo, a social networking, financial technology, and banking application. The platform serves as a social network that offers services to freelancers and helps them build online businesses. The app functions as a commission-free marketplace and a library of premium apps, including 4K video conferencing, chat, banking, invoicing, project, event management Virtual office. The users can access various services such as bill payments, tax advice, pensions, training and hiring, and office space.[11]
Gregg has also served various companies in executive and non-executive roles. She is a keynote speaker at MIDEM on digital marketing and effective content delivery. She delivered a speech at Tippit Festival on Socially Conscious Creativity and Entrepreneurship.[12]
As a musician
Gregg began her musical career with her appearance on the track Tonight from Kool and the Gang's album, The Hits Reloaded. In 2004, she launched her record label, Gr8pop.
In 2005, two of her songs, "Sweet Things" and "For Life," were among the 56 finalists (out of 4000 songs entered) in the Pop category of The UK Songwriting Contest. The same year, Gregg also supported Wet Wet Wet on tour.[13]
In 2006, Gr8pop ltd. and Ingenious VCT reached an agreement to release Gregg's debut album in 2007.[14]
In October 2005, Gregg announced home concerts. In December 2005, s he played intimate acoustic gigs in Starbucks coffee establishments in every major UK city, continuing for the entire of 2006. In February and March 2007, Gregg attended a UK support tour with Lemar.[15][16]
In 2007, Gregg began a third "House Gigs" tour immediately after the Lemar tour. UKgigs.tv offered to film her third "House Gigs" tour. On May 21, her Glasgow home hosted the first filmed home concert. On May 23, she performed at Ovarian Cancer Support in Finchley, North London. On May 25, she completed a home concert for young fashion designer Hannah Marshall in Colchester. In June, her other shows were hosted and filmed in Birmingham, Newcastle, Manchester, Glasgow, and Edinburgh. Her early fame led her to perform at the summer 2007 UK festival.[17][18]
