Golyan Group is a Kathmandu-based family-owned business that has catered to the economic and social foundations of Nepal in the areas of agriculture, manufacturing, hospitality, renewable energy, and financial services. The company is best known as one of the largest exporters in Nepal, having exported to 40+ countries so far.[2][3][4]

Golyan Group employs one of the largest workforces in Nepal, with 5000+ people at work and an annual turnover of $400 million.[5][6][7]

History

The Golyan Group is a company with a legacy of more than six decades, initially started by Sohan Lal Golyan and now being extended to its third generation.[8][9] It is one of Nepal's leading private sector enterprises with 16+ businesses in Nepal, including manufacturing, construction, hospitality, finance, agriculture, and renewable energy.[10] It is backed by a strong workforce of over 5000 employees and is regarded as one of the largest exporters in Nepal.[11]

Reliance Spinning Mill Limited is the flagship company of the Golyan Group, which serves as its backbone.[12][13] Some of its other verticals include Golyan Agro (MATO), NMB Bank, Westar Properties, Mizu Energy, City Hotel (Hyatt Place Kathmandu), and Shivam Plastic Industries.[14][15]

Services

Golyan Group has several businesses across manufacturing, finance, renewable energy, construction, agriculture, and the hospitality industry.

  • Agriculture : Golyan Agro (MATO) was established to promote agricultural diversity in Nepal. It aims to educate and enable farmers to produce goods without any added preservatives. It also has commercial farming spanning across an area of 130 acres in the eastern part of Nepal and is also operating retail stores inside Kathmandu Valley.
  • Construction and Real Estates: Golyan Group has a strong presence in real estate development in Nepal with a portfolio comprising a 212-apartment project, luxury apartments at Hyatt, commercial towers, and more.
  • Hospitality: Golyan Group’s City Hotel was founded in 2016. City Hotel introduced the second Hyatt Brand in Nepal, The Hyatt Place Kathmandu in 2021.[16] It has 153 rooms and several dining options inside the hotel.[17]
  • Financial Services: Golyan Group’s NMB Bank and NIC ASIA Bank have been operating in the Nepalese financial market for over 20 years and are amongst the leading commercial banks in the banking industry.[18] The Group also has its projects in the insurance sector, which include Nepal Life Insurance and Asian Life Insurance.[19][20]
  • Manufacturing : Golyan Group entered the manufacturing sector in Nepal with its investment in a weaving mill in the late 1970s. Since then, many high-tech manufacturing units have been established by the Group, which include Reliance Spinning Mills, Tricot Industries, and Shivam Plastic Industries.[21][22]
  • Renewable Energy : Golyan Group is involved in the production of 9 hydropower projects in Nepal, some of which include Upper Balephi Hydro Power Limited, Balephi Hydro Power Limited, and Mizu Energy Private Limited. One of the Group’s solar power plants is Pure Energy Limited, a 20 MW plant coming up in Nepalgunj.[23] Golyan Group has invested in renewable energy with a plan to contribute 900 MW to bring a sustainability portfolio to the country in the next decade.[24][25][26]

Philanthropy

Golyan Group is also involved in philanthropic and CSR initiatives through the Jayant Golyan Memorial foundation, they have adopted two villages in the Kailali district and have started a buffalo farming project to assist the farmers as part of its CSR initiatives.[27] Additionally, they are also training and providing resources to empower Nepali women in the fields of sewing, knitting, and weaving.[28] They are also offering financial assistance to manage the food for stray dogs in the Kathmandu Valley.[29][30]
