Elsa Ramírez García (born February 28, 1957, in Tegucigalpa, Honduras) is a Honduran journalist, writer, poet, and cultural promoter.[1] She is known for her contributions to literature, journalism, and cultural preservation. Throughout her career, Ramirez has held roles in Honduran institutions and published multiple works showcasing her literary and journalistic prowess.[2][3]
Early life and education
Ramirez was born and raised in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. She was the third of ten siblings born to Faustino Ramírez Rodríguez and María del Rosario García de Ramírez. From an early age, she developed a love for literature while attending the 21 de Octubre Mixed School, where she was inspired by the school library.[4]
Ramirez pursued secondary education at the Vicente Cáceres Central Institute and later earned a Bachelor of Arts from the Honduran Business Institute in 2010. She undertook diverse professional and vocational training, including auxiliary nursing at the Florence Nightingale School and secretarial studies at the Alpha Institute.[5]
Ramirez obtained a degree in Social and Public Communication with a focus on journalism from the Metropolitan University of Honduras (UMH). Additionally, she holds a diploma in pedagogy from the Francisco Morazán National Pedagogical University (UPNFM).[6][7]
Career
Ramirez’s career spans various roles in journalism, literature, and cultural advocacy.[8] She began as an employee at the National Autonomous Service of Aqueducts and Sewers (SANAA). She later worked with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), where she retired in 2003.[9]
Ramirez is committed to advancing Honduran literature, journalism, and culture.[10] Through her writings and advocacy, she has made significant contributions to preserving the nation’s literary heritage and fostering cultural dialogue both locally and internationally.[11]
As a columnist, Ramirez contributed to publications such as Diario La Tribuna and Enaltavoz.com. Her work has appeared in various magazines, including Hablemos Claro and the Honduran Academy of Geography and History Journal.[12][13]
In 2008, she joined Radio Comayagüela, where she was a news editor and presenter for the “Mensajero Informativo” program.[14][15]
Ramirez has also been involved in cultural initiatives, serving as General Secretary of the Honduran Press Association (APH) from 2019 to 2024. She is also the Life President of the Honduran Council of Culture, Juan Ramón Molina.[16]
In addition, Ramirez is a speaker at national and international symposiums, including the 2022 Latin American Dialogues: Rubén Darío & Juan Ramón Molina, organized by the Espírito Santo Academy of Letters in Brazil.[17][18]

- Diploma of Gratitude from the Faculty of Humanities and Arts, Department of Letters, Career of Letters at the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH) for her role as a speaker during the "Molinense Afternoon" event (April 25, 2024).
- Certificate of Participation from the Academia Espírito Santo de Letras for her lecture “Almas Gemelas en el Tiempo” during the 1st International Symposium “Latin American Dialogues: Rubén Darío & Juan Ramón Molina” in Vitória, Brazil (July 23, 2022).

Personal life
Ramirez married fellow journalist and poet Mario Hernán Ramírez. Mario died in 2023. Together, they had four children, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
