Carlos Javier Jarquin
Carlos Javier Jarquín (born June 26, 1990) is a Nicaraguan writer, poet, columnist, cultural journalist, music producer, and cultural activist.[1] He currently resides in Masaya, Nicaragua, and has made significant contributions to literature and journalism across Latin America and Spain.[2]
Early life
Jarquin was born in Rancho Grande, Matagalpa Department, Nicaragua. His parents, Juan Francisco Mejía Castro and Juana Rocha Jarquín, separated before his birth. His maternal grandmother raised him from humble beginnings. Jarquin did not meet his mother until he was 14 and his father until he was 21. His early life experiences shaped his perspective on culture and society, fueling his passion for writing and journalism.
Career
Jarquin is known by the moniker "El Chico Poeta." His work encompasses various genres, including poetry, chronicles, opinion pieces, reviews, prologues, and interviews, with an emphasis on cultural and literary themes.[3] His writings have appeared in numerous newspapers and magazines internationally, including publications in Spain, the United States, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Argentina.[4]
Jarquín serves as a columnist for several newspapers, including La Prensa (Managua), Diario 16 (Madrid), El Siglo (Guatemala), Diario Siglo XXI (Valencia), and La Onda Digital (Montevideo), among others.[5]
Jarquin’s poetry has been featured in multiple international anthologies and online radio platforms.[6] His literary works have been translated into several languages, including Albanian, Arabic, Chinese, Korean, French, Greek, Hebrew, English, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Dutch, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, and Uzbek.[7]
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jarquín co-founded the International Literary Festival “Honoring Death and Celebrating Life,” aimed at promoting global literary discourse.[8]
In 2021, he coordinated the Antología del Bicentenario de Centroamérica, which marked 200 years of Central American independence.[9]
In 2023, he published Canto Planetario: Hermandad en la Tierra, a two-volume multilingual anthology that features over 200 poets advocating for a sustainable future for humanity and the Earth.[10]
In addition to his editorial roles, Jarquín is the head of the digital newspaper El Sol de las Américas for Central America and has been a member of the Poets of the World Movement since 2018. He is also a corresponding member of the Academia Espírito-santense de Letras in Brazil.[11]

Awards and recognitions
- In 2024, Jarquín received the Golden Eagle World Award, presented by the Hispanic World Writers Union (UHE).
- He also received the Cesar Vallejo World Prize in 2024, awarded by the Hispano-World Union of Writers.
