Elijah Chilton Harvey (born February 26, 1984), professionally known as Elijah “LX” Harvey, is an American artist, singer, composer, and music producer.[1] A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, Harvey is known for his contributions to film and sports music production, as well as for producing across genres including rap, rock, and R&B. He is a Grammy voter and has been active in the entertainment industry since 2000.[2]

Early life and education

Harvey was born in Landstuhl, Germany, to American military parents and moved to the United States at the age of five. He was raised in Capitol Heights, Maryland, and Southeast Washington, D.C. Harvey attended Jericho Christian Academy, graduating as salutatorian, and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications – Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Music Theory from Bowie State University. He received early musical mentorship from Tyrone Kohlheim, beginning at the age of nine.

Career

Music and production

Harvey began his professional music career in 2004. His early break came with televised exposure through Comcast On Demand, making him one of the first artists featured via the platform. Over the course of his career, he has released four studio albums and has contributed to various commercial and independent music projects.[3]

He has worked as a producer on the HBO series Succession and served as a music supervisor and scorer for productions including Bundles and Collide. He also collaborated on the Washington Mystics anthem and halftime show. Harvey's music has been featured in the Emmy's, Oscar's, and Grammys.[4]

Collaborations

Harvey has collaborated with several artists and public figures, including Wale, Mýa, Layzie Bone, Kxng Crooked, DJ Heat, Nappy Roots, Wordsmith, and Kevin Ross. He has also worked with producers such as Jimi Kendrix and Crank Lucas. His production credits extend to projects with the U.S. Department of Defense.[5]

Recognition

In 2011, Harvey was recognized with a Southern Entertainment Award for his work on Nappy Roots’ Pursuit of Nappyness, which charted on Billboard. He has received multiple civilian service awards, including the Army Civilian Service Award, Armed Forces Civilian Service Medal, and the Joint Forces Civilian Award. He is also a recipient of the DMV Veteran Award.Harvey is affiliated with labels and music groups including The Code, MBN, Indigo Republic, MadeByUS, and Jingle Punks.[6]

Personal life

Harvey was married in 2018 and divorced in 2023. He identifies as a devout Christian and often incorporates faith into his personal philosophy and creative ethos. Outside of music, he is interested in science, gaming, history, anime, and languages, with proficiency in Spanish and Japanese.
