Elie Douna is an Australian entrepreneur, property developer, and philanthropist based in Wollongong, Australia. He is the founder and director of the Douna Group, a real estate development company specializing in residential and commercial properties. With 20 years of experience in the development industry, Douna focuses on creating sustainable and affordable housing solutions.[1]

Additionally, Elie Douna founded HomeBuildersReviews, an online directory of Australia's real estate builders, suppliers, and developers. He is actively involved in philanthropy, particularly through SWAG Illawarra, a charity organization he co-founded with his brother Charbel which feeds, clothes and assists the homeless and least fortunate residents of Wollongong.[2]

Early life and education

Douna was born and raised in Wollongong, Australia, to Lebanese immigrant parents Adib and Liane Douna. He has a twin brother, Charbel Douna. Growing up in housing commission homes,[3] Elie faced linguistic challenges and cultural discrimination. He completed an electrical apprenticeship in Sydney before being introduced to property development and investment.

Career

Douna co-founded the Douna Group with his brother Charbel. The company specializes in residential and commercial projects and aims to provide sustainable and affordable housing solutions.[4]

In June 2024, the Elie Douna and the Douna Group supported the New South Wales government to support the Transport Oriented Development (TOD) initiative to increase the supply of affordable housing for low-income families and students in areas such as Wollongong and in broader New South Wales.[5]

Elie Douna is a strong advocate and supporter of resolving the housing crisis by developing and building more low-income housing in the region. He is all too familiar with the plight of those less fortunate than himself.

Douna plans to launch HomeBuildersReviews in August 2024, a platform that aims to enhance transparency within Australia's building industry. This platform will feature a directory of developers, builders, and suppliers, along with verified reviews and ratings from clients.

Philanthropy

Douna is actively involved in philanthropy, particularly through SWAG Illawarra, a charity organization he co-founded with his brother Charbel.[6] Founded in 2017, SWAG Illawarra focuses on addressing homelessness in Wollongong by providing meals and support to those in need.[7]

Personal life

Douna is married to Emily, and they have four children: Roman, Chloe, Elias, and Vincent. In his free time, Douna enjoys golfing and is a car enthusiast.
