James T Bearden (born May 6, 1975), popularly known as Elteezy, is an American entrepreneur, rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, instrumentalist, author, creative director, graphic designer, and public speaker.[1] Elteezy has been regarded as one of the most influential hip-hop artists. He is also known for creating 801 U, an Italian Unisex Sneaker line.[2]

Elteezy has made a significant contribution to the development of a diverse music production environment throughout his career, earning praise for his unique approach.[3] Some of his best-known songs include True Colors, Monday, Look At You, Run It Up, and others. Since his debut in the music industry, he has worked on several featured projects with multiple prolific names including Snoop Dogg, Run Dmc, Adele, Rap a lot Records, Big Mike of the Geto Boys, Kayne West, Lil Wayne, Megan Stallion, Dmx, Jay Z, Eminem, 50 cent, Kanye West, Bentley Records, Fontana Records, and Lil Nas X to name a few.

The new dance show of 1989, the 2002 Utah Auto Credit Commercial, MTV, Still Struggling, and the 2020 Titan Restoration Commercial are just a few of Elteezy's notable appearances. He was also awarded the X-Poze-ing Music Award in 2021.[4][5]

Early life and education

Elteezy was born on May 6, 1975, in Detroit, Michigan. He was inclined towards music during his teenage years and decided to pursue his career in that industry. When he was in middle school, Elteezy began writing raps, inspired by his life, his battle with bullying, and alcoholism. He dropped out of school during 10th grade and indulged in street activities succumbing to drugs and alcohol.

His inclination towards such activities resulted in him ending up in jail, which turned out to be an eye-opening event and led Elteezy to get a hold of his life and find purpose. He then enrolled in MOTT high school where he studied business and mathematics, obtaining his GED. During this time he also began participating in Mic Battles organized at local clubs like Club 808, The shelter, Natalie’s, Club Manhattan’s & C-Note Lounge.

Career

Elteezy started his career in 1989 when he released his first EP (Lost in the Flow). In the early 1990’s when he joined a hip-hop group - Detroit Da Worldz One & Only, where he served as a DJ and producer. During this Elteezy also represented another music group, which comprised his childhood friends, performing at several events hosted by Candy Productions. It was with this group that Elteezy signed his very first recording contract.[6]

In 1996, Elteezy moved to Sacramento, CA. to further pursue his career. He then began taking up several freelance projects and participating in street battles. In 2003 Elteezy was signed by Floss the Boss and several other indie labels such as Lazy Boss Records, No Limit Records, Intercept Music, and Rap A Lot Records. During this time, he even composed projects for Big Mike, Yazid Sola LDLA. In 2005 Elteezy sold 10,000 copies of his album 'I wish I was a Mack' underground.[7]

In 2008 Elteezy finally got the big break he was waiting for and was signed by Mc Breed, and two years later by Scoob Serious.[8] Throughout his career, Elteezy has worked with various talented artists underground to major legends from around the world such as Keith Sweat, Suga free, Wipeout, Mc Breed, Big Mike, Yazid Sola, Dj Mike Moov, Al Nuke, Bugz aka D-Twizzy, Proof, Mac Dre, Spice 1, Dttx, Don Vito, Doug E. Fresh, Busta Rhymes, Dj Naydee, Hersh, Dj Spindoc, Da Worldz One & Only, and Candy to name a few. Simultaneously, he also organized a number of rap battles in the city’s most ‘happening’ clubs such as Club Natalie, and Club Manhattan’s.[9]

Apart from his successful career in the music industry, Elteezy has also ventured into multiple philanthropic endeavors and is actively involved with The Soup Kitchen, The Road House homeless shelter, Project 180, and others.[10]

Personal life

Elteezy is married to Jill Gonzales, and the couple has no kids together. Elteezy has 3 biological kids and 6 step kids as well as 14 grandkids.
