John den Boer is an American clinical neuropsychologist and sports psychologist known for his work in dementia prevention.
Life and career
den Boer was born in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He earned undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Sociology from Carroll University in 2000. He completed a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in 2002. He obtained a Ph.D. in 2007.[1]
He completed his postdoctoral training in clinical neuropsychology at the Barrow Neurological Institute from 2007 to 2008. den Boer worked as a clinical neuropsychologist and sports psychologist at different healthcare institutions, including Casa Colina Rehabilitation Center, Barrow Neurological Institute and Maricopa Integrated Health System.[2][3][4][5]
In 2009, he founded Mental Edge Neuropsychology and Mental Edge Tennis, providing mental coaching to athletes, particularly tennis players.[6]
In 2013, den Boer founded SMART Brain Aging, Inc.(later renamed to Dementia Prevention Systems). where he developed the SMART Memory Program, a cognitive intervention program aimed at delaying cognitive decline in individuals with early-stage dementia.[7][8][9][10][11][12]
In 2019, den Boer authored and produced This is Dementia, both a book and a documentary, for education and awareness regarding dementia and cognitive health. The documentary was released on Netflix.[13][14][15][16][17][18]
