Dr. Fakhrul Islam Babu (July 20, 1977) is a Bangladeshi entrepreneur, business management professional, and civil activist who has significantly impacted society through his involvement in socio-political issues.[1][2] He is the founder and director of MEXIMCO GROUP, a multinational corporation,[3] and the founder of two non-profit organizations: the China Bangladesh Friendship Center-CBFC[4][5] and Dr. Muhammad Fakhrul Islam Foundation, a charity organization working to assist distressed people in Bangladesh.[6][7][8]

Throughout his life, Dr. Islam has demonstrated his dedication to helping people and has over twenty years of experience working with oppressed and underprivileged communities.[9][10][11]

Early life and education

Dr. Islam was born on July 20, 1977, in a Muslim family in Bangladesh. He was raised by his father, Alhaj Abdul Latif, a government service holder, and his mother, Mrs. Tazimun Nessa, a housewife.

Dr. Islam's educational background is extensive, starting with his early education in Chandpur, Bangladesh, where he completed his secondary and higher secondary education at Chandpur Al-Amin Academy School and College and Chandpur Government College. He later received a Diploma in Electronics Engineering and a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Bangladesh Technical Education Board and Bangladesh Institute of Technology, Dhaka. In addition, he earned a Bachelor of Social Science and a Master of Social Science in Political Science from Govt Tolaram University College and Habibullah Bahar University College in Dhaka.

Furthering his education, Dr. Islam pursued a Master of Business Administration from Darul Ihsan University, Bangladesh, Shenzhen University, China, and Atlantic International University, USA. He then earned a Doctor of Business Administration and Ph.D. in International Trade from Atlantic International University, USA, in 2011.[12]

Aside from his academic pursuits, Dr. Islam actively participated in cultural activities. In Chandpur, he was engaged with Kochikachar Mela, Khelakhor, and Songit Niketon to learn traditional music and other cultural practices.[13][14][15]

Career

As an entrepreneur, Dr. Islam is the founder and director of MEXIMCO GROUP, a multinational corporation operating in several countries, such as China,[16] Hong Kong,[17] Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, and Turkey.[18][19][20] He serves as the Managing Director and CEO of the group. In addition, he is the founder and current General Secretary of the China-Bangladesh Friendship Center-CBFC[21][22][23][24] and the Dr. Muhammad Fakhrul Islam Foundation, a charity organization working to assist distressed people in Bangladesh.[25][26]

Dr. Islam is also politically active, the Vice-President of Bangladesh Awami League, Hong Kong, and a voting member of the local Hong Kong political party, DAB.[27] He is a member of several professional organizations, including the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, the Hong Kong Management Association, the Royal Asiatic Society, Hong Kong, the Commonwealth Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong, the Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Hong Kong, the Bangladesh Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong, and the Chinese Economist Society, USA, among others.[28][29][30][31]

Dr. Islam is a charter member of the Interact Club of Chandpur Central and a Rotarian,[32][33] serving as the past president of the Rotary Club of Dhaka Orchid of RID 3281, Bangladesh, and currently serving as a director and member of the Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Golden Mile, RID 3450, Hong Kong. He is also a life member of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and Bangladesh Association of Hong Kong (BAHK).[34][35][36]

Personal life

Dr. Islam was originally from Bangladesh, but later acquired Chinese nationality and changed his name to 孫逸仙 (Sun Yat-sen). Currently residing in Hong Kong, he holds Hong Kong Chinese citizenship.

In 2009, he married his first wife, Ms. Sun Wei Xia, from the Chinese mainland. They had two sons, ISLAM Muhammad Tazimul and ISLAM Muhammad Latiful, but the couple separated in 2016. In 2022, Dr. Islam remarried his long-time friend and colleague, Ms. Amor Mabeza Aisha Islam 宋慶齡.
