Dr. Alexandra S. Heerdt is an American breast cancer surgeon known for her clinical expertise in diagnosing and treating breast cancer.[1] She is a board-certified surgeon at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Heerdt is actively involved in research projects focusing on the impact of exercise on managing weight gain during chemotherapy and preventing lymphedema in women.[2]
Career
Dr. Heerdt received her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University and her Master of Public Health (MPH) from Columbia University School of Public Health. She completed her residency at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and a fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.[3]
Starting in 1994, Dr. Heerdt ran the Special Surveillance Breast Program at Sloan Kettering for eight years. She focused on defining appropriate screening and treatment options for women with family histories of breast cancer.[4]
Dr. Heerdt is a board-certified surgeon at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, performing breast surgeries such as mastectomy, breast reconstruction, and removal of cancerous skin. She is known for her clinical expertise in diagnosing and treating breast cancer and other breast abnormalities. Dr. Heerdt is actively involved in research projects investigating the use of exercise to help women undergoing chemotherapy control weight gain and prevent lymphedema. Additionally, she is committed to training young physicians in effective communication strategies with patients and their families.[5]
Dr. Alexandra S. Heerdt has authored several book chapters and publications in medical journals, focusing on breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, hernias of the abdominal wall, and communication in surgical oncology.
