Dominic Kalms is a British-American entrepreneur and philanthropist known for being the Founder and CEO of fintech companies B Generous[1][2] and GVNG[3] and the charitable organization EndCovid-19.[4] He is also an ambassador for the Global Citizen Forum.[5] Previously, he served as Head of Business Development at Global Philanthropy Group.[6] Kalms is also a member of the Forbes Nonprofit Council,[7] NEXUS Global Summit,[8] and Global Good Fund.[9] He sits on the Fundraising Board’s of Forest Whitaker’s Foundation and Val Kilmer’s Foundation.

Early life and education

Kalms was born in Hong Kong and grew up in London before relocating to the United States.[10] He is the grandson of Lord Stanley Kalms, the Founder of Dixons, one of the largest electronic retailers in Europe.

For his high school education, Kalms attended Milken Community School, where he was involved in student government, track & field, and the volunteer program for children’s literacy program KOREH L.A. He graduated in 2006 and subsequently became the President of the Alumni Association.[6]

Kalms graduated from NYU with a BA in Political Science with a double minor in Law and History.[6] He went on to study at Columbia University, where he earned an MA in International Affairs and Economic Development.[6]

Career

Kalms’s early positions were at HSBC and Citibank while attending NYU and Columbia University.[10]

After finishing his postgraduate education at Columbia University, Kalms worked for the Afghan Ambassador at the Afghan Mission to the United Nations.[3][10] After his time at the UN, he began working as an Associate in the United States Senate in the Chairman’s Office.[6] Kalms eventually returned to Los Angeles, where he took a position helping manage nonprofit foundations at Global Philanthropy Group and running business development for the firm.[3][6]

After Global Philanthropy Group was aquired, Kalms went on to start GVNG in 2016.[11] GVNG provides a platform that people can use to set up nonprofit projects.[1] GVNG also allows users to set up a nonprofit website and uses proprietary technology and a legal vehicle to allow any user to operate with a 501(c)3 status anywhere in the United States.[12][13] Celebrities such as Richard Branson, Val Kilmer, and Miley Cyrus , Rick Fox, The Real Housewives of Beverly HIlls and others have used GVNG to set up charitable projects and fundraisers.[3][14][15] GVNG was called “One of the most revolutionary platforms in the social impact space” by Forbes.[16] Kalms is the President of GVNG today and remains on the Board.

In 2020, Kalms founded “EndCovid-19” to raise money for supplying N95 medical masks and face shields to institutions to the United States during the start of the COVID 19 pandemic.[4] EndCovid-19 conducted a virtual celebrity auction to raise money for hospitals, which gave attendees the opportunity to bid on virtual 1-on-1 meetings with celebrities such as Naomi Campbell, David Blaine, Kenan Thompson, Ne-Yo, Jeremy Piven etc.[17] Kalms interviewed on CBS News to discuss the campaign alongside actor Harry Hamlin who also participated in the campaign.[18]

Kalms was also featured in a front page profile by Entrepreneur magazine in 2020.[4] After the death of Ahmaud Arbery in 2020, Kalms also collaborated with Attorney Lee Merritt to establish the Ahmaud Arbery Foundation, which promotes initiatives promoting racial justice.[10]

Kalms went on to start the Fintech company B Generous, which offers the first philanthropic credit product which allows donors to “Donate Now, Pay Later” (DNPL).™[1][19][20] This service allow nonprofits and charities to receive donations right away while donors pay for the donations over time with no interest costs, or fees.[20] B Generous’s “donate now, pay later” services are designed to increase the amount donors give.[20][21][22] B Generous has been featured in Axios, TechCrunch, American Banker, TheStreet, Yahoo Finance, Forbes, The Nonprofit Times, MinistryWatch, The Business Journal and other publications. In July 2022, B Generous was named a cohort participant in Blackbaud’s Social Good Startup Program.[23]

Kalms has served as a speaker at events such as the NEXUS Global Summit,[8][5] the Social Enterprise Summit,[5] TechCrunch’s Global Ventures Summit,[5] Money 20/20,[24] The Global Citizen Forum, and TEDx.[10] He has also been featured in the Goldman Sachs Philanthropy web series.[25] Kalms has also been featured in other media outlets such as NBC, CBS News, BBC News, and Yahoo.[10]

Kalms has written several articles on digital fundraising as a Forbes Council writer.[26][27]

Kalms lives in Los Angeles and New York and maintains dual US/UK citizenship.
