David M. L. Rabin MD, PhD (born on 1 June 1985), is an American neuroscientist, psychiatrist, entrepreneur and inventor.[1] Rabin is best known for his research studies in clinical translation of non-invasive therapies that improve mood, focus, sleep, and quality of life, particularly in patients with treatment-resistant illnesses like Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance use disorders.[2]

Rabin is the co-founder of Apollo Neuroscience, a stress relieving wearable instrument[3] based on the combinations of low frequency inaudible sound waves that generates parasympathetic nervous response resulting in improved calm, cognitive performance, and recovery.[4][5][6]

Rabin is also the co-founder and executive director of the Board of Medicine which is a nonprofit organization of physicians and scientists.[7] The Board of Medicine trains and certifies healthcare providers. It works on providing quality control standards for complementary and alternative medicines in order to support high-quality clinical research.[8]

Rabin’s research has been featured in several media outlets including Entrepreneur, Men’s Health, Fox News, CBS, CNET, Archives of Ophthalmology, Cell Stem Cell, and Aging, as well as popular podcasts like Dave Asprey's Bulletproof Radio, Dr. Drew, Ben Greenfield, and STEM talks.[9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17]

Early life and education

Rabin was born in San Francisco, California to Dr. Arnold Rabin and Dr. Sandra Shefrin. Rabin’s father is an ophthalmologist and electrical engineer, and his mother is a neurologist. Rabin has two younger brothers - Dr. Richard Rabin who is an ophthalmologist, and Kenneth Rabin who is a math teacher.

Rabin pursued his bachelor’s degree in biology at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a minor in philosophy. He then got enrolled in an Accelerated Physician-Scientist Program in 2007 and earned his PhD in Neuroscience in 2013. Rabin received his MD in Medicine from the Albany Medical college in 2014. From 2014 to 2018, Rabin trained in Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Career

In 2014, Rabin started working as a physician and research scientist at the UPMC hospital and health care center in Pittsburgh. He worked on novel therapies for treatment-resistant mental illnesses such as PTSD and substance use disorder, focusing on minimally invasive techniques.[18][19]

In 2018, Rabin was appointed as a co-principal investigator at Modern Spirit, a non-profit organization that works on spiritual healing in modern healthcare.[20][21] He along with fellow associate doctors - Rael Cahn MD, PhD, Ben Kelmendi MD, Joe Tafur MD and the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) are working on one of the world’s largest controlled studies of the epigenetic mechanism of action of psychedelic medicines in a human population.

In the same year Rabin along with his wife Kathryn Fantauzzi founded Apollo Neuroscience, a stress relieving wearable instrument.[22][23] This product aims at relieving stress and is based on Rabin’s study of technologies that change the way people regulate thoughts and feelings in response to tactile stimulation and other non-invasive interventions.

Rabin started The Board of Medicine in 2019,a non-profit medical board that focuses on providing quality control standards for complementary and alternative medicines in order to support high-quality clinical research. This Board also trains and certifies healthcare providers. It is a non-profit organization by the doctors providing support for clinicians and patients.

Rabin has also been featured on several podcasts like STEM Talk, Dr Drew's Podcast, BioHackers Lab, Ben Greenfield Fitness, Wellness Mama, and The H.I.T. Show with Steven Kuhn.[24] He has been a guest speaker at the Transformative Technology Conference and the CES 2020 Wearable Technology Summit.[25]

Rabin is also the co-author on two published patents that resulted from his research at the University of Pittsburgh.

The Psychedelic News Hour

Dr. Rabin hosts the Psychedelic News Hour on Clubhouse every Friday with Dr. Molly Maloof, MD. Its mission is to share the latest knowledge from medical and scientific research with the public enhance safety, education, awareness, and access to this rapidly evolving field of medicine.[26]
