Dana Andrew Packard (born August 31, 1966) is a director, actor, drummer, and producer best known for producing, directing and editing the feature films 40 West, Mr. Barrington, and the 16mm short film, The Ballad of Ida and Doob, for which he also wrote the screenplay.[1] Packard has won several accolades for his contributions to the film industry, including Best Director at the NYC Downtown Feature Film Festival and the Grand Jury Prize at the Amsterdam Film Festival for 40 WEST. He has directed more than eighty plays, and has acted in dozens with The Originals, the resident company at Saco River Theatre, and which he founded with Jennifer Porter in 1998. SRT is a thriving Actors Equity Small Professional Theatre, music venue, and performing arts hub in the village of Bar Mills, in Buxton, Maine.[2]

Early life and education

Packard was born on August 31, 1966 in Portland, Maine. In his childhood he was drawn to acting, drumming, martial arts, skiing, and most team sports. He attended Bonny Eagle High School where he acted in many school plays under the direction of P. Michael Bourgoin. He obtained his Bachelor’s in Theatre with a Minor in Music from the University of Southern Maine.

Career

Packard is co-founder of multiple organizations with Jennifer Porter, including Honey Tree Films, The Originals Theatre Company and Cougar Moon Music. He is President and Executive Director of Saco River Theatre. Packard is a member of the Directors Guild of America, Screen Actors Guild, Actors Equity Association, and Professional Ski Instructors of America.[3]

Awards

Packard has been a recipient of several awards, including Best Director at the NYC Downtown Feature Film Festival and as a finalist at the Lucerne International Film Festival. For 40 West, he earned multiple accolades, including Amsterdam Film Festival’s Grand Jury Prize, and Best Feature Film at the Vegas Indie Film Festival.

Personal life

Packard is married to Jennifer Porter, an acclaimed musician, actor, and screenwriter, with whom he has collaborated in theater, music, and film since 1984. The two live in Southern Maine in a 2.5 story Victorian that they bought in Portland for ten dollars in 1995, and moved 15 miles in 8 pieces.
