Catalin Zorzini is a Romanian-born serial entrepreneur recognized for contributions to the digital landscape. With a dynamic portfolio encompassing blogging, online marketing,[1] and web production, Zorzini has established himself as a notable figure in sustainable commerce, mental health, mindfulness, and applied ethics.[2][3]

He has founded various online platforms dedicated to positive change and awareness. Among his creations are the Plum Village App, a free mindfulness app that offers in-depth meditation resources and Buddhist insights from Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh; Ethical.net, a pioneering online directory that spotlights ethical technology enterprises and products; Ecommerce Platforms, a comprehensive online destination well known for its reviews of e-commerce tools; and Earth.fm, a non-profit streaming platform of high quality nature recording.[4]

Early life and education

Zorzini was born and raised in Bucharest, Romania. He holds a dual bachelor’s degree, having studied Marketing at the National School of Political and Administrative Studies (SNSPA) and Mechatronics at the Politechnic University of Bucharest, graduating in 2008.

Career

Following his graduation, Zorzini began working as an online marketer. However, realizing the potentially deceptive nature of marketing practices and their contribution to global issues, he later shifted his focus toward mental and physical well-being, mindfulness, and applied ethics. Zorzini's interests subsequently gravitated towards promoting sustainable lifestyles that offer support not only to individuals and families but also to broader communities, encompassing both human and the more-than-human world.[5]

Throughout his career, Zorzini founded and directed several ventures addressing the complexities of the modern world through conscientious and holistic approaches. In 2012, Zorzini founded Ecommerce-Platforms.com, an independent review platform offering comprehensive assessments of online store-building software.[6] The website aims to present a balanced perspective by highlighting the positive and negative aspects of various e-commerce platforms, assisting users in making informed decisions tailored to their needs.[7]

In 2016, Zorzini established the Plum Village App (PlumVillage.app), a free application featuring guided meditations, deep relaxation techniques, and other practices led by Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh and his monastic community. The app is a digital resource for individuals seeking mindfulness and meditation practices for their well-being.[8]

In 2018, Zorzini introduced Ethical.net, a collaborative platform designed to facilitate the discovery and sharing of ethical alternatives across products, services, and lifestyles.[9] The platform offers insights into sustainable and socially responsible choices, whether through supporting social enterprises, engaging in thrift shopping, or encouraging the repair of existing items instead of purchasing new ones.[10]

In 2022, Zorzini launched Earth.fm, a non-profit repository of pristine natural soundscapes. Serving as both a resource and a fundraising platform for local grassroots charities supporting environmental restoration, Earth.fm highlights the work of field recordists, soundscape ecologists and associated charitable initiatives. To support initiatives and organizations addressing ecological and environmental concerns, Earth.fm aims to collaborate with organizations like Tree Aid, the International Tree Foundation (ITF), and Instituto Terra.[11][12][13]

Personal life

Zorzini currently lives in Dordogne, France, close to the Plum Village mindfulness practice center established by THich Nhat Hanh in 1983.
