CG Tech is a global group of companies headquartered in London, United Kingdom. CG Tech's portfolio includes Prommac, Kumunyack, Al Laith Group, New Age Engineering, The Virtulab, Serious International, LongCross South Studios, Virtuworx and Mecton.[1][2]

CG Tech has 5 primary global operating business units: Oil & Gas, Film & Event Infrastructure, Industrial, Real Estate and Technology across Africa, the Middle East and the United Kingdom.[3]

History

Niall Carroll, Jason English, Joseph Zinyana and Dany De Barros formally established CG Tech in 2020. It was created off the back of CG Energy which was initially established in 2014 to be an investment holding company. In 2014, CG Energy made its first investment into Prommac which was majority owned and managed by then CEO, Jason English. CG Energy went on to make further investments into Kumunyack, Al Laith Group, The Virtulab, New Age, Serious International, Longcross South Studios, Virtuworx, and Serious Energy. The company is headquartered in London, United Kingdom, and has operating companies across Africa, the Middle East, and the United Kingdom.[4]

CG Tech is now an owner managed group of companies which invests in businesses where its core competencies in m&a, finance, project management, and innovation can drive long-term value creation. The company is focussed on Oil & Gas, Film & Event Infrastructure, Industrial, Real Estate and Technology where its operating entities provide a diverse range of services including structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, welding, fabrication, project management, engineering, scaffolding, plant and machinery rentals and software development services.[5]

The group serves private and public companies.

In 2018, Jason English was appointed as CG Tech’s Chief Ecosystem Officer. Presently, the CG Tech group has over 5000 team members across the operating companies.

Corporate structure

CG Industrial Holdings Ltd., operating as CG Tech, is registered in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), with shares held by its directors and their family entities. The majority shareholder is SONS Investments Ltd. (SONS), a BVI-registered company with shares listed on the Bermuda Stock Exchange and regulated by the BVI Financial Services Commission and the Bermuda Stock Exchange.

Investments and ventures

The company's portfolio includes investments in various enterprises:

Prommac: Founded in 2005 by Ray Walters, and taken over by Jason English in 2012, Prommac was incorporated into the CG Tech group in 2014. Prommac provides mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, maintenance, shutdown, and project management services in South Africa.[6]

Kumunyack: Incorporated into the CG Tech Group in 2015, Kumunyack offers electrical and instrumentation services, including low- and medium-voltage solutions.[7]

The CG Tech Group founded the Virtulab: Previously called IRIS in 2016. It was changed to the Virtulab in 2018 and provides consultancy and software development solutions.

Al Laith Group: Founded in 1995 by Tony Knobbs and Shukri Al Braik, it was incorporated into the CG Tech Group in 2016. Al Laith provides engineering, project and construction services largely to the events and construction sector, and provides turnkey plant, machinery, and temporary site overlay rentals.

New Age Engineering: Founded in 2002 by Joseph and Susan Zinyana, New Age was incorporated into the CG Tech group in 2018. New Age provides specialist structural and piping fabrication, engineering and installation services in South Africa.[8]

Serious International: Founded in 2020 by the CG Tech Group. Serious International is a leading provider of temporary and permanent sound stages for the film production industry.[9]

LongCross South Studios: Founded in 2020 as a joint venture between Serious International and Serious Stages. LongCross South Studios is a film and television production facility in Longcross, Surrey. The studio offers a full infrastructure for the film and TV industry, including sound stages, backlots, and other facilities. The studio is known for hosting various film productions, including movies from major studios like Marvel and Disney.[10]

Virtuworx: Founded in 2021 by the CG Tech Group, Virtuworx is a remote virtual metaverse campus, catering to conferences, educational events, and remote office requirements. Virtuworx has hosted significant events, including the inauguration of the president of South Africa and TEDx Lytelton talks.[11]

Serious Energy: Founded in 2024 as a joint venture between the CG Tech Group, Serious Family Group and We Energy. Serious Energy engineers and installs renewable energy systems with a deep focus on solar and hydrogen systems.

Mecton: Founded in 2015, Mecton Al Laith was incorporated into the CG Tech Group in 2024. Mecton provides engineering, project management and execution solutions for building refurbishments and SPIR Services (Scaffold, Painting, Insulation, Refractory) for oil & gas and construction industries.[12]

Additionally, CG Tech founded the CG Innovation Fund, a unique incentive scheme for executive employees worldwide.
