Bernie Wong (Chinese: 黃啟亮; born in Hong Kong, Bernie Wong Kai-leong) is Hong Kong based businessman, digital marketing expert, marketing speaker, lecturer and radio host.[1] Wong founded Social Stand, a digital marketing agency that offers social media marketing, content marketing, advertising, strategy planning, higher user engagement, brand building and other digital marketing services.[2] He is also a member of the executive committee of Hong Kong Association of Interactive Marketing and The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) Committee.[3] Wong is considered as a high impact force by his clients, looking to reach wider audiences in the digital era. He emphasizes Facebook, Instagram and WeChat platforms to the clients and connects their audience with a high engaging brand storytelling approach.[4]

Wong is known for his digital marketing expertise and consultancy, he has built a reputation as an advertising professional with over 15 years of experience that brings higher engagement, improved ROI and better search visibility for his clients. Wong currently serves as the founder of Social Stand, Live Radio Program Host at Radio Television Hong Kong and Lecturer (Marketing) at different universities including the University College Dublin.

Wong was born in Hong Kong. He started his career as a Custom Brand Experiences Lead at Yahoo! US, which helped in developing interest in digital marketing in his early career. He built a list of prolific clientele for his company Social Stand, some of them includes Starbucks, Disney, Adidas, Ming Pao, CSL 1010, GAP and Tempo. Wong also hosts Podcast Marketing Superpower and Radio Television Hong Kong.

Early life and education

Wong graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor's Degree in Creative Media from the City University of Hong Kong. He then went to the Chinese University of Hong Kong to pursue a Master’s Degree in New Media. In 2019, Wong enrolled in a doctorate program of Business Administration in the The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.[5]


Wong has been a host since 1996 for Radio Television Hong Kong that broadcasts entertainment, educational and public affairs programmes. Wong addresses topics such as digital trends, social media and technology. [6]

Wong was leading the custom brand experiences team of Yahoo! for 3 years, from 2009 to 2012. He led a team of 10 people spread across Asia and the United States working on online advertising campaigns, product development and branded consumer experiences. Wong in his tenure at Yahoo, worked closely with companies such as Estee Lauder, Volkswagen, Colgate and GAP.[7]

Wong was a lecturer at Vocational Training Council for 6 years, from 2011 to 2017. He was a digital and social media marketing speaker for several organizations sponsored by the local government. Wong addressed the Hong Kong Association of Interactive Marketing, Hong Kong Trader Development Council, Hong Kong Productivity Council, and Hong Kong Wordpress Association along with institutes such as Kaplan, CityU, PolyU, VTC, Thei, IVE, and CUHK. Wong also hosted talks and cooperate trainings at companies such as PayPal and WeWork.

In 2013, Wong worked with Asia’s leading advertising group WPP's digital agency, Agenda as a digital director. He led the social media team and the communications and planning team. He worked on strategic recommendations for advertising and marketing campaigns for the clients. [8]

In 2013, Wong founded Social Stand Limited, a Hong Kong based social media agency that provides professional services that help in online branding. Social Stand Limited creates digital marketing strategies that focus on a model that encompasses the client’s brand story on digital world with content marketing, customized with the opinions of the company experts. Under Wong’s leadership Social Stand has worked with a number of high prolific clients such as Starbucks, Disney, Gap and the Hong Kong Government to devise digital marketing strategies, create content, and launch digital campaigns for them.[9]

In the last decade, Wong has built a relationship with high profile educational institutions such as Hong Kong University, HKU SPACE and University College Dublin to connect with their audiences, both as a speaker and lecturer.[10][11][12]


Wong is considered as a digital marketing expert and often speaks at industry events, seminars and conferences related to digital marketing, social media marketing, brand building, online advertising and brand management. He has been seen as a speaker at industry events including Wordpress Hong Kong and Elementor Hong Kong.[13][14]

He is also a columnist for Mingpao and writes on the topic of digital marketing.[15]
