Early life and education

Poindexter was born on 12 July 1983 in San Jose, California to Nelda Grimes and Herschel Grimes. She grew up with one half sister and two brothers—Krystle, Herschel, and Jonathan.[6]

Poindexter’s grandfather, Walter Green, was a major influence on her growing up. Green was one of four African American engineers who worked on the top secret TAURUS rocket launch program before becoming wealthy in multi-family real estate. He was one of Poindexter’s main inspirations for starting a successful business.

Poindexter, after completing her high school education at Mt. Pleasant High school, enrolled in Prince George's Community College, and later transferred to Bowie State University to complete her undergraduate degree in Business Administration and minor in Procurement. In 2012, Poindexter completed her master’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Maryland University College. Later in 2017, she also obtained her Aesthetics license at the Academy of Hair Design and Body Art license in Nevada.[7]

Career

Poindexter started her career in 2008 as a Program Support Specialist for the U.S. Department of Education, where she worked for four months as an intern before accepting a position as a Junior Contract Specialist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture before focusing on completing college.

In 2009, Poindexter joined a private company where she worked for half a year in the visa customer service department, before beginning her work as a contractor for government agencies as a Junior Contract Specialist. In 2012, Poindexter became a Senior Contract Specialist and Quality Assurance Reviewer. Poindexter stepped away from contracting work in 2015 to join a large private company as a Senior Program Manager.

Poindexter got married and moved across the country to start her entrepreneurial journey in 2016 with the establishment of Scalp Prodigy, a premier cosmetic tattoo establishment that specializes in Scalp Micropigmentation and Microblading, before extending her reach into salon suites and real estate.[8]
