Ahniel Lee (born August 20, 1991), better known as Rickz/Ricky, is a Canadian entrepreneur and fashion designer. He is the founder of Povrich, a leading streetwear brand, a fashion label he founded in 2015. He has designed for a number of companies and is known for his unique fashion sense.[1][2]

Lee is considered one of the top streetwear designers of the new era. He offers a vast range of intricately designed products such as T-Shirts, Denim, Hoodies, Shorts, Accessories, and others. A trained marketer, Lee, who immigrated from Jamaica to Canada with a single mother entered the world of streetwear fashion at an early age. In his early days he began remixing clothing into brand new designs which led to the launch of his career founding Povrich.[3]

Lee is also an expert in social media management and has built a huge network to provide immediate exposure for his brand. He is also the recipient of the 2021 "Black Designers of Canada Award of Excellence”.[4][5]

Early life and education

Lee was born on August 20, 1991, in Kingston, Jamaica. While growing up, Lee assisted his mother’s friend with minor sewing duties, which inspired him to pursue a career as a fashion designer.

Lee later moved to Toronto in 1998 with his single mother to start a new life. He grew up in the Toronto, Jane/Lawrence area, more specifically known as "Queens Dr." known for its gang activity & crime. Even so, Lee never left sight of his passion and continued to hone his craft.

Lee graduated from George Brown College in 2012 with an Advanced Diploma in Marketing.

Career

2015 - Present

Soon after his graduation, Lee started working at several marketing jobs. In 2013, he joined Champs Sports as a Sales Associate, where he worked for over two years, gaining experience in the marketing field. Lee, during this time, was responsible for overnight designing, learning photoshop, lightroom, and final cut.

In 2015, Lee founded Povrich, a streetwear brand with the aim to bring stories to life with his unique designs. Povrich stands for Poverty to Riches, and Lee adapts this concept in all its seasonal launches. Lee’s ideas are to highlight his garments as a canvas, painted with current times displaying art on the body through streetwear. The stated goal of Povrich is a piece of art worn on the body of a walking canvas as each collection is viewed by lee as an art collection.[6] Lee’s ideas are to highlight his garments as a canvas, painted with current times displaying art on the body through streetwear.
