Adam Ferrari is an American energy executive and chemical engineer who serves as Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Energy One, LLC (Phoenix Energy), a U.S.-based oil and gas company focused on the acquisition, development, and operation of domestic energy assets.[1][2]
Early life
Ferrari grew up in Illinois in a working-class family. His mother worked in the electrical drafting department at Exelon for 40 years, while his father worked as a police officer and pipe fitter at a nearby ExxonMobil refinery.[1] Ferrari has credited his parents and their support with playing an important role in his upbringing and education.[1]
Education
Ferrari graduated magna cum laude from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering.[1]
Career
Early in his career, Ferrari worked for BP as a completions and production engineer in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico and later worked in investment banking at Macquarie Capital.[1][2] He subsequently returned to the operating side of the energy industry, working at Halcón Resources before pursuing entrepreneurial opportunities in oil and gas.[2] While at Halcón, Adam supported various exploration and development programs in the broader Gulf Coast region and the Bakken shale asset in North Dakota. Following his tenure at Halcón, Adam pursued entrepreneurial opportunities on the mineral acquisitions side of the oil and gas industry that ultimately led him to Phoenix Energy.
Ferrari became involved with Phoenix Energy One, LLC, formerly known as Phoenix Capital Group Holdings, LLC. According to a 2026 interview, he initially served as an adviser to the company before assuming other roles and ultimately becoming its chief executive officer.[2] Phoenix Energy's business encompasses mineral rights, non-operated working interests, and operated oil and gas assets, with operations focused in the Williston Basin.[2][3]
During Ferrari's tenure as CEO, Phoenix Energy expanded its operated drilling and production activities. The company ranked No. 33 on the Financial Times list of the Americas' Fastest-Growing Companies 2025, based on revenue growth from 2020 through 2023.[4] Phoenix Energy's Series A Cumulative Redeemable Preferred Shares subsequently began trading on the NYSE American in 2025.[5]
As of 2026, Ferrari serves as chief executive officer of Phoenix Energy One, LLC.[2]
Philanthropy
Ferrari's philanthropic efforts have focused on education and support for individuals with physical disabilities. Through the Ferrari Foundation, he supports the Adam Ferrari Health Science Scholarship, which provides a $20,000 award to a student pursuing health-science careers with an interest in improving care for people with physical disabilities.[6]
Ferrari also established the Phoenix Energy Scholarship, which supports students pursuing education and careers in energy-related fields.[7] In 2026, the scholarship offered a $15,000 award to a student pursuing a career in the oil and gas industry.[8]
Earlier in his career, Ferrari and Ferrari Energy also supported charitable organizations including Next Steps of Chicago, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Freedom Service Dogs, and Denver Rescue Mission.[9]
Awards and recognition
In 2026, Ferrari was selected to receive the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering's Young Alumni Achievement Award, which recognizes alumni for professional distinction, leadership, creativity, entrepreneurship, and service to society and the university community.[7]
