Adam Eugene Vaughan (born 21 June 1977) is an American travel blogger, lifestyle blogger, social media influencer, and entrepreneur.[1] He was a Special Operations Manager in the United States Air Force. Vaughan has founded the travel blog Vonski Travels, and currently serves as a Global Product Security Services Manager at Meta. He is best known for his long career in the Air Force and for being a travel blogger, creating a following on social media for his creative traveling photos and videos.[2]

Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Vaughan creates content focused on finding hidden gems and creating virtual journals which his followers keep track of. He makes videos covering travel stories and shares his experience, primarily inspired by his Air-Force learnings.[3]

Vaughan is also known for his work centered on human rights. He has been actively sharing and raising his voice for gender equality, orientation, and other related social issues. During his long Air Force career, he received various awards, including Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and several others.[4]

Early life and education

Vaughan was born on 21 June 1977 in Omaha, Nebraska. During his childhood, he heard tales of Ireland from his Irish aunts; however, he did not dream of traveling. Instead, Vaughan played football games with his neighborhood friends. He has completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management, an Associate degree in Applied Science in Finance, and an Associate degree of Applied Science in Criminal Justice.

Career

In 1998, he joined the U.S. Air Force and remained with it for 20 years. He has 12 deployments and has visited some of the most war-torn parts of the world. During his deployments, he closely worked with local families and developed relationships with people from diverse backgrounds. This led him to develop an appreciation for different ways of life and become more empathetic. He also gained an insatiable appetite for exploring new destinations and immersing himself in different cultures.[5]

He was deployed for the first time during the aftermath of 9/11, and this is where he got inclined towards traveling. During his time as a Special Operations Manager in the U.S. Air Force, he visited 47 countries and had to spend extended periods living in different places, including Japan, Qatar, and others. In 2018, Vaughan retired from the Air Force and joined Meta (formerly Facebook) as a global security specialist. The job at Meta required more traveling and visiting several countries, allowing him to experience a diverse array of people and cultures.[6]

Vaughan started the travel blog Vonski Travels to share his travel journey. He started documenting his travel experiences on social media platforms, which helped him build a following.[7] Vaughan’s storytelling videos allowed him to gain popularity and connect with an audience. His content also covers his experience of looking at what he learned from the air force, growing visitors' interest in his travel blog.[8]

Awards and recognition

During his career at the U.S. Air Force, Vaughan has received a number of awards. Some of them include:

  • Meritorious Service Medal,
  • Armed Forces Service Medal
  • Combat Readiness Medal
  • National Defense Service Medal
  • Air Force Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster

Personal life

Currently, Vaughan lives in California with his wife Rosana, his lifelong adventure partner and photographer. When they are not traveling, they spend time with their kids, Andrew, Kylie, and Liam. Vaughan, along with his family, is seen on long hikes and cooking elaborate dinners (and desserts).

He started Vonski Travels to inspire empathy and wanderlust. Vaughan often shares that traveling is not just about tourism and snapping photos to share on social media. He believes "travel is about growing as a person and bridging cultural divides, reclaiming your passion for life and reigniting your curiosity. It's more about finding fulfillment."

He believes that people, regardless of gender, age, or sexuality, deserve fundamental human rights, and he is often seen striving to educate others about diversity and inclusion.
