Angelo James "AJ" Cartas aka AJ Cartas is an Filipino-American businessman, his previous digital marketing company shutdown in 2019 and and its domain, raisefluence.com is available for sale.[1] AJ Cartas has only 110,000 followers on his Instagram profile where industry peers have usually over 1-5 million following on Instagram. He is also author of one book, he has also created some videos on Vine.

AJ Cartas had to shutdown his previous marketing agency, its domain is now available for sale and after that he has founded another marketing agency Syzygy Social, a start up social media agency that is trying to make its place in a very competitive influencer marketing in Asia, especially China. On Glassdoor, there were reviews which states "no space for learning".[2]

AJ Cartas also has a fund for early-stage, minority-led startups. The purpose is to empower founders from underrepresented communities such as racial minority, LGBT, first-generation immigrants, and non-graduates, since Cartas is part of all of those communities. He is the author of the book Startups and Downs.[3]

AJ Cartas claims to be minor investor in Jumpstart Recovery, but there is no news for his investment. The insurance tech company based in Oakland, CA is known for offering a completely new approach to earthquake insurance where if you're in the red zone affected by an earthquake, an immediate $10,000 payout is given to eligible policyholders. He has also invested in WeLivv, an online search platform and marketplace that assists product discovery and shopping through photos of people's homes. It also aids designers to share their work and connect to inspire design and facilitate purchases.

Early Life & Education

AJ Cartas was born and raised in the Philippines and moved to the U.S. when he was 7. He was raised in a conservative Baptist family.[4] He moved around a total of 3 times and went to 9 schools by the time he attended high school. Cartas graduated Valedictorian, attended College of Lake County from 2012-2014, transferred to Carthage College and attended a semester studying Communications there. He left college his third year and moved to Silicon Valley to start consulting for companies for social media.

Career

While he was in college, AJ began a social media career on Vine and Instagram. AJ began posting funny, 6-second videos on Vine and was soon recognized as a prominent personality on social media.[5] AJ was featured on DigiTour 2014 in Chicago with Jack and Jack, Jake Foushee, Sam Wilkinson, and David Dobrik.[6]

As an influencer, Cartas worked on campaigns with Disney, Nike, Zara, and Adidas and was one of the first influencer to work with Redbox on a social media campaign in 2014.

Professionaly, he has led social media for Bytedance, a $78 billion Chinese company, parent company of Tik Tok and led influencer marketing for Calm, $1b mental health app. Cartas also worked with technology giants in Asia including ByteDance (Tik Tok), Alibaba, and Tencent on social media campaigns.[7]

In May 2019, he published his book, Startups & Downs,[8] and gave advice to people who are trying to move to Silicon Valley and work at startups. He gives them interview tips, career tips, and overall life tips that college doesn’t prepare students such as how to attain financial security and emotional intelligence. He spoke at Stanford July 2019 about his book to students who are underrepresented. Late 2019, Cartas has invested in companies including Jumpstart Recovery, WeLivv, Status Money, Soar Robotics, Avenify, Nanno, Tallyfy and Blue World Voyages.

In January 2020, Cartas eventually launched his third social media agency, Syzygy Social, and built out a network of over 10,000 influencers with a total of over 500 million followers. His company specializes in social media management, community management, and influencer marketing, both domestically in North America and international including Europe, Asia (mainly China), Australia, and South America.

Personal Life

AJ Cartas currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
His parents are Bernard Cartas, and Michelle Cartas.
He has a sister who is 10 years younger, Mayeauri.
He’s been with his partner, Simon Malette, since 2018.
He came out as gay in June 2016.[9]
He is fluent in English and Tagalog and learning French, Spanish, and Chinese (Mandarin).
