Zainab Merhi (Arabic: زينب مرعي) born in 1986 in Beirut, is a Lebanese writer who studied French language and literature at the Faculty of Letters and Human science at the Lebanese University.[1] She has been writing in the Lebanese and Arab Press Network since 2005, and is the producer of the documentary “Tehran Unlimited”. She has two novels: "The Abyss" (Arabic: alhawia), which was published by Dar Nofal Publishing and Distribution in 2016, and "Floating House Over the River" (Arabic: manzil eayim fawq alnahr), as well as other booklets. [2] [3]

Career path

The first novel by the Lebanese writer is “The Abyss” (Arabic: alhawia), which was published by Dar Nofal, and it is a book that approaches the effects that the Lebanese civil war had on the people of the country and its fighters.[4] In it, the writer sought to recover what was deposited in the morbidity and distortion of the interior of those who fought this war. Rather, she tried according to her to monitor them through the character of the hero of her novel "Suhail" through a dialogue between him and the other character "Khidr", who is Suhail's older brother.[5] Zainab deliberately made room for this character to play the role of a mirror, reflecting through dialogues the feelings of Sohail and what is going on inside him. [6][7]

A second novel was published by her, entitled "Floating House Over the River" (Arabic: manzil eayim fawq alnahr), also published by Dar Nofal Publishing and Distribution, in which it deals with the issue of four Lebanese women from one family, belonging to three successive generations, represented by the grandmother, mother and two granddaughters.[8] She observes how the fateful curse is reflected on each of them, a path and a fate. In the novel, this curse, which is similar to the curses in the Greek theater, overthrows the maternal relations between Badi’ah and Fatima, and between Fatima and her two daughters, Layla and Bana.[9] It overthrows the paternal relations between Fatima and her mother, Badia, and between the two sisters and their mother, Fatima, on the other hand. It overthrows the brotherly relations between the two sisters, Laila and Bana, on the third side.[10] It devotes a great deal of space to jealousy, envy, hatred, marginalization, destruction, and revenge, which we find in the events of the novel with its facts and memories.[11]
