Yi Sherry Zhang, Ph.D.[1], is a Chinese-American entrepreneur and the founder and CEO of GenoPalate, Inc., a company that provides a direct-to-consumer solution [2] for eating for optimal health based on the link between human biology and nutrition.
Career
Dr. Zhang[3] is a scientist specializing in life sciences. In college, Dr. Zhang studied microbiology at Nankai University, which is constantly ranked in the top 10 list of Chinese universities. She then came to the U.S. to complete her graduate education in molecular biology. After getting her Ph.D. from Marquette University, she embarked on an 11-year research journey[4] to elucidate which genetic factors contributed to the alarmingly prevalent obesity and metabolic disorders of our society in the U.S. and around the globe[3].
As a researcher specializing in clinical genomics, Dr. Zhang’s research was devoted to elucidating the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms (a key link between the gene and the environment) underlying the differences of people’s traits[3].
She uses a comprehensive system[5] encompassing molecular, bioinformatics, and statistical technologies in solving the clinical questions in her lab. Dr. Zhang’s work to create new knowledge in science has been documented in more than a dozen original publications in journals of high impact.
In order to extend and expand the application of the innovations and knowledge of her research work, Dr. Zhang founded GenoPalate, Inc. in 2016 to provide people with a new way of accessing the knowledge of genetics[6] and nutrition for a healthier life[7].
Personal
Dr. Zhang is a mother[3], scientist, and entrepreneur[8]. Her passion for science has taken her around the world in her quest to study bacteria, plants, populations of humans, and obesity genetics[3].
Born in 1979, she currently lives in Brookfield, WI with her husband Dave and her son Ryan.
