Art historical classification

The engaging images seem to want to carry you away on a search for individual truth, but also for the truth of an entire culture. A wide variety of materials, such as paper, newspaper and magazine articles or fabric, which he assembles in his works like collages, create the surface structure typical of the artist. They contribute to the three-dimensionality and depth and add a layer of everyday life and pop culture, which the artist playfully combines with traditional motifs. A play of opposites accumulates in Ackah's works: The dialectic of life and death, mental abysses, a dreamy playfulness, and day and night. Ackah himself calls it "the poetry of existence". But his own identity and the society in which he lives also play an undeniable role for Ackah. Socio-political themes such as racism and the deep-seated wounds of colonialism can also be found in the works.

The sources of inspiration of his works often lead back to African culture. Ackah's use of African sculptures and masks is a deliberate stylistic and artistic reference to Pablo Picasso, who also drew on traditions of African culture. Ackah uses this cognitive link to draw attention to the millennia-old historicity of art on the African continent, but also to redefine it at the same time. The reference in his works to greats of art history such as Picasso or Henri Matisse also alludes to the racism and arrogance with which Europeans viewed the visual cultures of Africa, as well as to cultural appropriation.[4]
