Yahu Blackwell (November 22, 1986), also known as Yah’Kwame Kariuki Nii Ayi Kushii Amaa Blackwell and Yahu ‘Rock’ Blackwell,[1] is a boxing champion, multi-franchise owner,[2] and real estate investor who currently holds a record of 15-0 in the international boxing league.[3][4]

Early life and education

Blackwell was born on November 22, 1986, to Basil Akwetey Amaah (father) and Sandra Blackwell (mother). He grew up in the rough city of Baltimore, Maryland, with very little money. He lived in the USA with his mother whom he lost in 2015.

Of Ghanaian and Nigerian descent and Hebrew ancestry, Yahu started boxing at the age of 7. He trained covertly at the Mack Lewis Boxing Gym in East Baltimore without his mother's knowledge until he returned home as a teenager with a trophy for winning a competition.

Career

Blackwell was a police officer before becoming a professional boxer. Following in the footsteps of his idol, American boxer Muhammad Ali, he launched himself into the boxing arena after being introduced to the game by Rodney Kenion, a Baltimore County police officer.[5]

Blackwell has a 15–0 record in the International Boxing League, including twelve knock-outs. He has trained under Floyd Mayweather Sr., Freddie Roach, Roger Mayweather, Roberta Jalnaiz, Daniel Goodin, Derrick Crisco, and Coach Abel Gustavo.[6]

Blackwell is now ranked number one for the WBC regional championship.[7][8][9]

Blackwell has a boxing amateur pedigree that consists of 184 fights. He compiled a 156–28 amateur record as a welterweight. He lost his professional debut in 2009 after breaking his hand and reaching dangerous levels of dehydration.[10][11]

Blackwell is also a real estate investor and a multi-cuisine owner of Rita's Italian Ice, Auntie Anne's pretzels, Jamba Juice, Qdoba Mexican Grill, and Nalley Fresh.[12][13]

In 2017, Blackwell released a mobile app entitled "Crypto Boxers, The People's Champ."[14]

In 2023, Yahu Blackwell (Yah’Kwame Kariuki) who is of the Gadangme Tribe (Ghana) and Kikuyu Anjiru Clan (Kenya) will be enthroned as The Development King At Large by His Royal Majesty, HRM Notse Nii Nortey Owuo IV of the Osu Empire.[15]

His Royal Majesty; Osu Mantse HRM Notse Nii Nortey Owuo IV of Ghana, will crown Yah’Kwame Kariuki Nii Ayi Kushi Amaa Blackwell also known as “Yahu Blackwell” as the Development King at Large for the Osu Kingdom in Ghana, Africa.

Sources say, there are some political issues in Ghana in relation to the Osu stool. Depending on those resolutions, Yahu will either serve to stool in Osu or in Nungua. As of now, His Excellency, King Yah’Kwame Kariuki Nii Ayi Kushi Amaa Blackwell (Yahu Blackwell) will serve the Osu Stool after his coronation rituals in Ghana later this year (July 2023).

Blackwell is the face of Cameroon, Africa's "My Sister Cares Foundation," a non-profit dedicated to giving food, shelter, and clothing to orphans in Africa. He raised $65,000 to help buy food, oil, school supplies, and computers for the organization.[16][17]
