Yahoo! Mail is an email service that was first made available to users on October 8, 1997, and was developed and provided by the American firm Yahoo, Inc. The service is free to use for individual purposes, however there is a monthly subscription cost available for usage of extra services. Before the move to Verizon Small Business Essentials at the beginning of 2022, business email was provided by Yahoo! Small Business. After the transfer, it is now known as Verizon Small Business Essentials. Yahoo! Mail has 225 million users as of the beginning of the year 2020.

Using the use of a webmail interface, which can be accessed through any regular web browser, users are able to access and manage their mails. Additionally, certain accounts allowed users to send and receive email using the industry-standard protocols (POP3 and SMTP). Since 2015, users have now been able to link e-mail accounts that are not hosted by Yahoo to the webmail client.

The email suffix "yahoo.com" is appended to all new Yahoo! Mail accounts, as well as the majority of existing accounts for this service. Prior to this update, customers had the option of selecting ymail.com, rocketmail.com, or one of numerous country-specific suffixes for their email addresses. There was support for a large number of countries, including yahoo.co.uk in the United Kingdom, yahoo.fr in France (which was also used by francophones), and yahoo.it in Italy. Although these suffixes will no longer be available for new accounts, we will continue to support those that already exist. Both yahoo.co.jp and ymail.ne.jp are available as suffixes for use with Yahoo! Japan Mail, which is a different service. AT&T is one of the Internet service providers that uses Yahoo! Mail, and they provide free accounts to those who are not members as well as their own unique suffixes for subscribers.
