X-on is best known for offering omnichannel patient and practitioner-friendly communication solutions via Surgery Connect, a cloud based secure GP telephony solution that integrates with the major clinical systems such as EMIS, Vision and SystmOne, and additionally provides fully integrated remote working for GPs and staff.[4][5]

X-on, apart from receiving multiple awards, was named by Tech East 100 in 2020 as one of 100 innovative, ambitious, and eye-catching digital tech businesses in Norfolk and Suffolk. The company has been featured in several media outlets including HTN, Digital Health News, The Journal of mHealth, Med-Tech, Healthcare IT News, and others.[6]

History

X-on was established in Framlingham in 2000 by Paul Bensley and Paul Heeren. The company was founded with the aim to replace legacy phone systems with off-site hosted services delivered to handsets on standard phone lines, VoIP, and mobiles, managed with the help of the Internet.[7][8]

Since its inception, the company has become a leading provider of communications for the UK health sector. During its first two decades of service, X-on has provided services to numerous clients, while pioneering cloud telephony and is now best known for its award-winning Surgery Connect healthcare communications system, which is deployed into over 800 GP practices across the UK. This solution is built on the latest call centre technology and allows for full IVR capabilities, automatic calendar control, intelligent queuing, and call back functionality amongst other features.[9]

As of 2021, X-on is partnering with other healthcare providers to provide services that allow GP Practices to meet the digital ambitions of the NHS.[10]

Products and services

Surgery Connect

Surgery Connect is a secure GP telephony solution that improves the patient experience, along with facilitating efficient practice management across General Practice, GP Federations, and CCGs, and providing fully integrated remote working for GPs and staff. Surgery Connect generates analytics via real-time performance dashboards, plus regional statistics, improvement metrics and the use of AI.

Remote working is fully supported with GP@Home, which provides full functionality via mobiles and softphones. Integration facilitated by Surgery Connect ensures practitioners are not switching between a patchwork of discrete applications. GP@Home also integrates with EMIS Web and other clinical systems, providing remote clinical and admin staff access to patient information during a call.[11]
