Wendy Heard is an American author, editor, educator, and instructional designer known for her work in suspense and thriller fiction for adults and teens. She has authored several acclaimed novels, including The Kill Club, She's Too Pretty to Burn, and Dead End Girls.[1][2]

She is a member of Sisters in Crime, International Thriller Writers, and Mystery Writers of America. Heard also contributes to Crimereads.com, and Writer's Digest, and co-hosts the Unlikeable Female Characters podcast.[3]

Early life and education

Heard was born in San Francisco and has spent most of her life in Los Angeles, California.

She earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts from California State University, Los Angeles, in 2006 and later obtained a master's degree in educational leadership from Concordia University, Portland, in 2015.

Career

Hear started her career in 2015 as a technical writer and instructional designer for educational institutions such as CASAS, CalPro, the Burbank Unified School District, Instructure, and the Los Angeles Unified School District. She has developed training modules and materials for professionals and educators.[4]

In the adult fiction genre, Heard released her debut novel, Hunting Annabelle, in 2018, and then The Kill Club (2019) and You Can Trust Me (2023). In 2021, she made her foray into young adult fiction with She's Too Pretty to Burn. Known for exploring intense themes such as violence, sexual assault, and suspense, Heard's writing style captivates readers with its gripping narratives.[5]

She is a member of various writing organizations, such as Sisters in Crime, International Thriller Writers, and Mystery Writers of America, and contributes to publications like Crimereads.com and Writer’s Digest.[6][7]
