Waziri Adio (born June 14, 1968) is a Nigerian journalist,.[1][2] policy strategist,[3][4] and a Sunday back-page columnist at This Day Newspaper, where he offers economic and political solutions to the Nigerian government.[5][6][7][8]
He previously held roles as the Editorial Page Editor and a member of the editorial board at This Day.[9] Currently, he serves as the Executive Director of Agora Policy, a think tank based in Nigeria.[4][10][11]
Waziri also has experience in the public sector, having been Director of Communications at the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) from May 2007 to June 2008. He later served as the Executive Secretary of NEITI from 2016[12][13] to 2021[14]
Family life
Waziri Adio married Sandra from Edo State in 2001. They have three children.[1]
Publisher/Author
In 2012, Waziri Adio launched Metropole[15] a cultural magazine focused on the Abuja metropolis. In 2021, after completing his tenure as Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), he published a book titled The Arc of the Possible. The book reflects on his time in office, sharing the challenges he faced while staying true to his values, the ideas and innovations he introduced—particularly in the policy sector—and the accomplishments he achieved. It also offers lessons for those aspiring to serve in public office.[16][17][18]
Award
In 2018, The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism awarded Waziri Adio the 2018 Anti-corruption Defender of the year.[19]
