Walter (Wolfgang) Mendelsson was born on 6 May 1930 in Breslau, Germany (now known as Wroclaw in Poland). He passed away in the UK on 22 October 2000. The Pevsner Architectural Guides|Pevsner guide to Buckinghamshire references Walter's work in the field of monumental brass rubbing [4], and Walter's obituary refers to his election as a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London|Royal Society of Antiquaries of London in recognition of his work in this field [1].
