Viral Sudhirbhai Desai is an Entrepreneur, Environmentalist, and Philanthropist from Surat, India. He is known as the 'Green Man'. He is also the founder of 'Hearts at Work Foundation', a Social Welfare initiative of Zenitex established in the year 2008. He is involved in many philanthropic activities. Such as anti-tobacco campaigns providing edutainment for children, Rehabilitation of unemployed workers, to spreading awareness regarding Breast Cancer. He is noted for planting and taking care of more than 1,50,000 trees in the South Gujarat region. Viral Desai conceptualised Udhna railway station in Surat based on green model. He executed the project of transforming Udhna Railway Station to the 'first green railway station of India.' [1]

Under Hearts at Work Foundation, Viral Desai has done many Cancer Awareness and Free check-up camps. He organized the breast cancer screening camp in the Dang region of Gujarat in 2013. During this camp.[2]

He’s initiatives for social work have been mentioned in the book ‘Marching with a Billion – Analysing Narendra Modi’s Government at Mid-Term.' This book is written by Uday Mahurkar.[3] He is awarded by the Best Industry of Gujarat for the Quality and Environmental Protection by Government of Gujarat.[4]

Viral Desai were mentioned in The Economist 2014 report (London) titled ‘Breaking Borders from Canada to China’.[5]

Viral Desai was gifted 250 trees by Group Landmark along with the delivery of his new Mercedes car by the Mercedes-Benz, in recognition of his environmental protection activities.[6][7]

Early Life

Viral Desai was born on the 6th of June 1978, in the city of Bharuch in Gujarat, India. He did graduation in Bcom. Later he completed his MA in Economics and post-graduation in MBA Marketing.

Environmental welfare

He has successfully launched the first 'Green Railway Station' in India at Udhna Train station near Surat. Viral Desai with his voluntary team revamped the entire railway station, turning it into a green lung of Surat. More than 3500 trees were planted around the station.[8][9][10][11][12]

He has also created the first 'Urban forest of Indian Railways (Shahid SmritiVan) in the RPF colony of Udhna to pay tribute to the brave martyrs of the Indian Army. This urban forest is created on the Miyawaki Forestation technique.[13] He also has planted more than 1,50,000 trees at various locations and places in the South Gujarat Region.

Viral Desai has been the pioneer in starting a trend of celebrating the Indian festival of Ganesha, using the environment friendly idol ‘Tree Ganesha’.[14][15][16][17]

Viral has taken steps to increase the number of sparrows in the surat, gujarat. He has distributed more than thousands of nests. Simultaneously, he has also arranged a large number of nests, feeders, and water for sparrows at the Green Udhna Station.[18][19]

Professional Career

Viral Desai is the Founder and Chairman of Hearts at Work Foundation.[20] He is also an founder and CEO of Zenitex an textile business based on surat gujarat.[21]
