Vicki Attard(Born in 1965) is an Australian dancer. Attard is known for creating the role of Cio Cio San in “Madame Butterfly” written by Stanton Welch.[1] She has also been a part of "Nutcracker: The Story of Clara” in 1994 and “Nijinsky: The Diaries of Vaslav Nijinsky”in 2001.

Early life and training

Before joining the Australian Ballet School, she was trained by Dawn Armstrong and Betty Meskell. She joined The Australian Ballet School in 1985,[2] expecting to be there to receive a diploma, but ended up being promoted to Coryphee shortly after in 1987. With a scholarship Attard received, she was able to study dance in many different places such as London, Copenhagen, Netherlands. [3]

Career

Attard spent a total of 15 years at The Australian Ballet School, often performing in principal roles. Attard was also promoted to soloist, senior artiste, then principal artiste between the years of 1987-1993 at The Australian Ballet School. Attard left The Australian Ballet Company, rejoined in 1989 and again in 1990. Attard officially retired as a dancer in The Australian ballet Company in 1999. Attard was then able to dance Kiriti while on a tour in Washington state. Attard was also able to take on the role of Manon in Tokyo and Cio Cio San in “Madame Butterfly” during a New York show season. After her retirement she went on to get a diploma in dance instruction, which led to Attard traveling throughout Australia and teaching younger performers. In 2001 Attard came back to work on “Madame Butterfly” with The National Ballet of Canada, as well as the American seasons in Atlanta, Houston, and Boston. Attard also attended the recreation of “Madame Butterfly” in 2003 and made another appearance in 2011.[4] Currently, Attard teaches at dance companies and institutions in Australia as well as directing at the Houston Ballet Academy since 2016.[5] She took this time to create “My Pointe”, which is a TV program for beginner ballet dancers.
