The University of Auckland is a public research university situated in Auckland, New Zealand. It is among the world's leading research institutions. It is the biggest, most comprehensive, and highest-ranked university in New Zealand, and it is routinely listed among the world's top 100 institutions of higher education. Founded in 1883 as a constituent college of the University of New Zealand, the school has a long history of excellence. A derelict courthouse served as the organization's first home. Today, the Institution of Auckland is the biggest university in New Zealand in terms of enrollment, with around 40,000 students spread across five campuses in the city of Auckland. The City Campus, located in the heart of Auckland, is home to the vast majority of students and faculty. There are eight faculties on the campus, including a law school, as well as three research institutions that are affiliated with them.
