Thomas Kemp (19th January, 1971) is a British conductor[1] and violinist.[2] He is founder and artistic director of Music@Malling and Chamber Domaine - an ensemble that places contemporary music into its historic context.

Conducting

He read musicology at [St.Catharine's College, Cambridge and furthered his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music and at the Royal College of Music, Stockholm where he studied conducting with Jorma Panula and Paul Mägi.

He has conducted orchestras in the UK and abroad including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra[3], Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group[4] and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.[5] He made his operatic debut conducting the City of London Sinfonia at Opera Holland Park in an acclaimed production of Mozart - Cosi Fan Tutte[6] and has performed at Wigmore Hall[7] and festivals such as Brighton Festival,[8] Edinburgh Festival and Oxford International Song Festival.[9]

Kemp is the founder and artistic director of Music@Malling - which brings concerts and outreach to historic venues in and around West Malling, Kent. Music@Malling promotes new music alongside classical music and jazz and was featured in The Guardian - 10 Best Concerts and Operas 2022.[10] Commissions include works by Brian Elias, Deborah Pritchard, Daniel Kidane, Michael Price, Stevie Wishart, Joseph Phibbs, David Horne, Judith Bingham and Mark-Anthony Turnage.

He is the Music Director of Chamber Domaine: a project based ensemble which regularly appears at leading concerts series and festivals internationally.[11][12] He is a recording artist for Resonus Classics[13][14] [15][16] and published by Schott Music.[17]
