Taysean Lee Wilson-Nolan, or Taysean Nolan, is a Canadian film director, film producer and actor. He is the founder of HZ Studios, Inc. operating as Hour Zero.
Life
Taysean Wilson-Nolan was born in Rexdale, Etobicoke, a high-crime-rate area in the western region of Ontario's capital city, Toronto. There he attended Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School. After graduation, in the Fall of 2016, he attended Score Sports Academy[1], a post-graduation preparatory school, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
In June 2018, Taysean traveled to Denver, Colorado and trained with Rise Basketball under University of Dayton|Dayton University Alumni, DJ Stelly[2]. While in Denver, he also played in the Colorado Pro-Am Summer League. During that summer, he was introduced to Gavilan College and connected with their head coach Dallas Jensen[3], where he signed his Letter of Commitment and began his college basketball career. Taysean played the shooting guard position for Gavilan College[4] during the 2018-2019 season[5].
In Taysean's college freshman year, he studied Computer science|Computer Science and managed to earn a 4.0GPA. He was named a President's Scholar of Gavilan College[6] and awarded All-Academic Team of the CCCMBCA[7] (California Community College Men's Basketball C. Association). In addition, Taysean built imdbname:11881193|his portfolio spending years in the field of film production. The same year, he was nominated for Best Editing by The 2nd Annual Gavilan Film Showcase & Awards Ceremony[8] for his short, "Gavilan Hype" (2019)[9]. The short was made for the 2018-2019 Gavilan College Rams Men's Basketball Team[10] that went undefeated, with a 12-0 record, in CCCAA (California Community College Athletic Association) Coast Conference[11].
Taysean currently resides in Toronto, Ontario, and films there.
Career
In 2020, Taysean began directing[12] his first documentary film, imdbtitle:13057060|Unconventional Paths[13]. The film features professional Canadian basketball players Myck Kabongo and Dane Smith (basketball)|Dane Smith. The trio is a collective of Canadian athletes who grew up in poor and high-crime-rate neighborhoods in Toronto|Toronto, Ontario. Beyond their Socioeconomics|socioeconomic and Demography|demographic similarities, they share a common faith in Jesus|Jesus Christ. Although it is true that the struggles within their communities and passion for the game of basketball lead them in a pursuit to play in the big sports leagues-which could potentially open up life-changing opportunities leading to financial gains-their interactions with Christ altered their paths and changed their end goal.[14]
While imdbtitle:13057060|Unconventional Paths was in production, Taysean produced another Independent film|independent short film|film, an Animation|animated short film|short called Your Destination.[15] In 2020, Taysean received his second film nomination award[16] for Best Editing by The Annual Gavilan Film Showcase & Awards Ceremony for Your Destination.[17] The short film eventually became published on Amazon Prime Video[18]. It uses a dramatic action display to subliminally portray a drastic change that can occur in a person's life, in which Vehicle|vehicles, objects, and aircraft are used to symbolize the transitions a person must undergo in order for them to succeed.
