T.J. Beisner is a sports executive known for his roles in collegiate and professional basketball, particularly in Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) strategy. At the time of his hiring in 2021, the University of Kentucky billed Beisner as the first person hired by an NCAA institution to oversee NIL.[1]
Career
Sports Media
From 2012 to 2018, Beisner hosted Time Warner Cable's Kentucky Sports Television and served as the Senior Managing Editor of KentuckySportsRadio.com.[2] In 2018, Beisner joined JMI Sports as the Director of Digital Media and Content Development, where he oversaw the UK Sports Network and CoachCal.com, the official website of John Calipari.[3]
University of Kentucky
In August 2021, the Kentucky basketball program named Beisner as the first Director of Player Development in program history.[4] In his role, Beisner oversaw all off-court management and development of Kentucky's basketball players and assisted with recruiting.[1]
During Beisner's tenure at Kentucky, the Wildcats signed six five-star players, including four who were ranked #1 overall in their class at some point: Shaedon Sharpe, Aaron Bradshaw, DJ Wagner and Justin Edwards. Future NBA Draft selections Sharpe, Tyty Washington, Cason Wallace, Chris Livingston, Antonio Reeves, Sheppard, Rob Dillingham and Adou Thiero were all signed during this period.
Beisner also helped Oscar Tshiebwe, a native of the Democratic Republic of Congo, navigate NIL restrictions due to his F1 visa status. Tshiebwe went on to win the 2022 National Player of the Year Award and return to Kentucky for the 2022-23 season because of his NIL opportunities.[5]
As part of his off-court responsibilities, Beisner also helped teach the players how to swim prior to a team trip to the Bahamas.[6]
University of North Carolina
In September 2023, after winning a gold medal at the Global Jam, Beisner departed Kentucky to lead the NIL strategy at the University of North Carolina.[7] Media speculation at the time suggested that Beisner left his alma mater to be closer to his family.[8] Following Beisner's departure from Kentucky, Calipari referred to him as "my trusted lieutenant" and "jack of all trades", and wished him well.[7] A year after Beisner left Kentucky, Calipari also departed.
During his time with North Carolina, Beisner negotiated national endorsement deals for UNC basketball players with Dunkin', Marriott and Skims.[9]
NBA and FIBA Agent
As of February 2025, Beisner is working as a player agent and certified by the NBA Player's Association and FIBA.
Personal
Beisner grew up in Coppell, Texas[10] before graduating from South Oldham High School[11]. He is married to his wife Monique and they have two sons.
