Svetlozar Zurkov (born 3 December 1986, Popovo, Bulgaria) is a Bulgarian born American entrepreneur, fitness expert, consultant and nutritionist.[1] He is best known for his founding Svetness, a company that offers in-home lifestyle wellness and personal training. Under his leadership, Svetness has grown exponentially and is a leader in home training services in the country.[2] As of June 2020, the company serves over 900 locations in 7 States in the United States.

Zurkov has been widely covered by major outlets for his company, Svetness, which is on streak to become the fastest growing home personal training company in the United States.[3] The company focuses on providing quality and certified trainers to help people achieve their fitness goals at home. He started his career with menial jobs including cook and security guard before founding Svetness and Svetness Fitness.[4]

Early life and education

Zurkov was born in the small town of Popovo, Bulgaria. His mother, Tsvetka was a school teacher and his father, Nikolai was a police officer. He spent most of his childhood in Elena, an idyllic town near the Balkan mountain range. Fitness and sports were always present in Zurkov's life beginning in his childhood. Zurkov graduated with an associate degree in Computer Science and Technology from the University of Ruse.

He attended University in Bulgaria and emigrated to America in 2007 with a goal to start his own business. In 2009, he completed his training from the International Sports Sciences Association College of Exercise Science in Personal Training and Nutrition.

Career

Svetlozar Zurkov initially worked as a cook at Big Peckers Restaurant and security guard at Ocean City MD. After 5 months, he traveled to Oakton, VA to continue his studies and also worked as a cook for a few months at Jerry's Subs And Pizza, Oakton, VA. In 2008, he worked as a host at Anitas Mexican Restaurant and later left the job and joined Costco as cook and cashier. In September 2008, Zurkov started working with Amphora Greek Dinner as a server. In October 2010, he served Wachovia Bank as a bank teller. In November 2011, he completed his three year term with GNC as a sales associate.

In March 2012, Zurkov started his entrepreneurial career and founded Svetness Personal Training LLC, a company that focuses on providing personal training at home.[5][6] The company started several different programs such as personal training, couples personal training, corporate wellness programs, and apartment community classes to their clients.[7] Soon the company has numerous customers and partnered with several personal trainers across the country. Within a few years, the company had expanded operations and as of June 2020, it serves more than 900 locations across 7 states.

In October 2014, he started Svetness Fitness and Nutrition Corp and launched 2 Studios in Waldorf, MD and Leesburg, VA.[8]

Personal Life

Svetlozar Zurkov is fluent in Bulgarian, and English. He is an Orthodox Christian and spends his leisure time traveling and discovering new places. Zurkov is also an avid movie watcher and animal rights supporter.

Recognition and certifications

In April 2011, he was certified as a “Personal Trainer” by the International Sports Sciences Association College of Exercise Science.
