Svaha USA is an American online clothing retailer based out of Fairfax County, Virginia. The company markets children's clothing as well as adult apparel, with a focus on women's clothing with pockets such as dresses and skirts.[1][2] The majority of their clothing depicts or encourages interest in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM fields).[3]

Foundation & Operation

Svaha USA was founded in April 2015 by Jaya Iyer and Eva Everett who met while working at the Virginia-based retailer ThinkGeek.[4] The company was founded initially to provide a wider range of designs to female children.[3] The initial driving factor was a lack of scientific clothing for Iyer's daughter and a lack of less traditionally masculine clothing for Everett's sons. [4]

Svaha USA began as a project on Kickstarter with an initial goal of $25,000, which was not met.[5] Within a year, another Kickstarter project was launched to gauge interest under the name of Svaha STEAM Angels and the goal was met.[4] After the campaign's successful funding, Svaha USA incorporated adult sizing into their permanent stock. [3]

When first founded in 2015, Svaha USA was run out of the basement of the founder's home. A section of the home was designated as a warehouse where they were able to receive and ship orders.[6] The company relocated to a warehouse in Chantilly, Virginia where it currently operates.

Svaha USA has collaborated with Rebel Girls[7] and retired NASA astronaut Karen Nyberg.[8][9]
