Sushil Chandra Roychowdhury (18 September 1898 – 13 May 1978)[1] was an India|Indian scientist, and first in World Inventor[1] of Time switch|Automatic Time Switch[2][3][4] and Auto Switch[5][6] in 1933. He also made the "Pulpo-Polymer|Synthetic Polymer"[7][8] and 'Susilite'[9]

Early life and education

Sushil Chandra Roychowdhury was born in Idilpur[4], Faridpur District|Faridpur district[10] [4]in present day Bangladesh.

He did his schooling from St. Xaviers College Calcutta|St. Xaviers College, Calcutta[4][10] and completed his education at the National Council of Education, Jadavpur[4][10] [2](the present Jadavpur University|Jadavpur Engineering College).

Career

File:Young_Sushil_Chandra_Roychowdhury_at_work_-_on_the_cover_of_Industrial.jpg|thumb|Young Sushil Chandra Roychowdhury at work - on the cover of Industrial India May, 1934 Sushil Chandra joined the Calcutta Municipal Corporation[2] as Electric Inspector[3][11], at the urge of Subhas Chandra Bose|Netaji.[10] During his service period in the Lighting|Lighting Department of Calcutta Corporation[3][11], he was authorized to frame new lighting rules for all Movie theater|cinemas, Theatre|theatres, and other public resorts within the Calcutta Corporation area.[10][3] During the period 1933-36, he invented the Time switch|Automatic Time Switch[4] [2][3][5]and the Auto Switch[6][5][12]. The Indian Government acknowledged his work in the Annual Report of the Patent Office for the year 1933.[2] He sold his papers to a british firm, Messr H L Rochet and Company in 1934[2]. Bidhan Chandra Roy|Dr. B C Roy remarked that "this is an absolutely original invention"[5] calling him "Scientist".[10]

Later, he invented a novel versatile plastic named "Pulpo".[7][4] The Pulpo Products Company, Ltd, manufacted domestic goods from this.[8] He also developed 'Susilite' - a new powdered form of bakelite.[9]
