Sulemaan Ahmed is a Toronto based activist and business person.

Early life and family

Sulemaan Ahmed is the son of Dr. Tahira Ahmed[1] who emigrated from Pakistan[2] to Canada in 1972.[3]

He is a fan of the ice hockey team the Montreal Canadiens. He is Muslim.[3]

He is the grandson of a World War II veteran.[2]

He lives in Toronto[2] and is married to Khadija Cajee.[4]

Activism and volunteer work

Criticism of Don Cherry

Ahmed was quoted in several news outlets responding to Don Cherry#Removal from Hockey Night in Canada comments by ice hockey commentator Don Cherry.[5][6]“If anyone in future suggests Don Cherry be given Order of Canada, remember this, my grandfather (a Canadian immigrant) served in WW2 & Don never manned a post.”[5]

No Fly List Kids

After his 10 year old son was prohibited from flying due to similarities between his son's name and the name of someone on the no fly list, Ahmed started the No Fly List Kids campaign organisation to remove innocent children from the Canadian government's anti-terrorism no fly list.[7][8][9][4]

In 2019 National Security Act 2017 (Canada) included the changes Ahmed's group sought.[10]

Conquer COVID-19

In 2020, Ahmed co-founded and led Conquer COVID-19 a grassroots volunteer organisation that distributed over three millions items of personal protective equipment to Canadian healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.[11]

Companion Champions

In 2021, in the aftermath of the London, Ontario truck attack (Ontario) truck attack, Ahmed created volunteer platform Companion Champions to connect people afraid to walk alone with volunteer companions.[1][12]
