Su Hua-Qin or Su Huaqin (Simplified Chinese characters: 苏华钦; pinyin: Huáqīn) (February 14, 1925 – February 1, 2020), also known as H. Q. Su,[1] was a Chinese Theoretical physics and metallurgy scientist who made significant contributions to the development of semi-solid metals processing of alloys and composites; reform of traditional ferrous and non-ferrous metals by using advanced methods and technology; and fundamental study on physical metallurgy of cast alloys.[2][3]

Biography

Early Life Hua-Qin was born in Hangzhou (杭州), Anhui, China; his father, Yang Ko-Chuen, was a small businessman, and his mother, Chen Xiuoqin (陈秀卿), was a housewife. Hua-Qin attended Taimiao elementary school (太庙小学) and The Hangzhou 4th middle school (杭州四中) in Beijing. In the autumn of 1937 his family moved to Shaoxing (Shaoxing|绍兴) after the Japanese invaded China. In 1938,Hua-Qin with his grandma-in-law, Lai Yuyin (来玉英), and uncle-in-law, Chen Xuebai (陈雪白) moved to Changsha (长沙), Hunan (湖南); Liuzhou(柳州), Guanxi (广西); Guaiyang (贵阳), Guizhou(贵州)where he graduated from Guizhou High School. At age 15, he went to Chongqing(重庆),Sichuan (四川)where it served as wartime capital (the second Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945)); and National Southwestern Associated University was located in during that period of time. Hua-Qin admitted to Chongqing National Central Industrial Vocational School. (国立中央工业职业学校) in 1940, and graduated in 1944.

In 1944, Hua-Qin passed the entrance examinations, and granted admissions from National Central university (国立中央大学), National Jiaotong University(国立交通大学), and National Southwestern Associated University (国立西南联大). He selected and studied at National Central University. (国立中央大学).

Higher Education 1944-1948 Undergraduate study and earning Bachelor of Science (BSME) at Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Central University, Nanjing, China

1951-1955 Postgraduate studies and Department of Mechanical Engineering, Harbin Industrial University, Harbin, China; Department of Metallurgical Engineering, Northeast University, Shen-yang, China

1982-1983 Visiting scholar, research scholar, Department of Metallurgical and Material Science and Engineering, Case Western Reserve University, Ohio, Cleveland.
