Stephen James O’Meara is an American astronomer, columnist for Astronomy (magazine).[1], and author. He was formerly an associate editor at Sky & Telescope[2].

His reported visual observations include sightings of spokes in Saturn's B ring prior to the arrival of Voyager 1,[2] a determination of Uranus' rotation period prior to the arrival of Voyager 2,[2][3] and the Halley's_Comet#1986|first visual recovery of comet P/Halley in 1985.

Awards and Honors

The minor planet 3637 O'Meara was named in his honor.[2]

O'Meara was the recipient of the Texas Star Party’s Omega Centauri award in 1994 and Lone Star Gazer award in 2001.[4]
