Boyd earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He further pursued studies in theology, receiving both an associate’s and bachelor’s degree in ministry from the World College of Theology. Additionally, Boyd holds a Master’s degree in School Leadership from Wilmington University.

Career

Boyd is a veteran music educator and school administrator with over 25 years of experience, holding positions within institutions such as the Wicomico County Board of Education, Snow Hill High School, and Dorchester County Public Schools. Throughout his career, Boyd has applied and refined strategies in classroom management and student engagement, documenting effective practices for students across different age groups.[3]

In 2013, Boyd founded SB Entertainment, LLC, an organization that supports professional development for educators. The educational division provides research-based staff development programs aimed at improving classroom environments through effective classroom management and engagement techniques, achieving up to 80% reductions in referral rates.[4]

Boyd is renowned for creating the A.T.M. Method, a classroom management strategy for K-12 educators that aims to promote positive student behavior. A.T.M. stands for "Assume Nothing, Teach Everything, and Monitor & Model," emphasizing a proactive approach in guiding students' behavioral development. Boyd's method advises teachers to assume no prior behavioral knowledge from students, teach all expectations explicitly, and regularly monitor and model desired behaviors. Through consistent reinforcement, the A.T.M. Method aims to create a positive, respectful classroom culture, enabling educators to manage disruptions effectively and focus on fostering an engaging learning environment. Classrooms have adopted Boyd's A.T.M. Method as a practical framework to cultivate lasting positive behaviors among students.

Boyd is also a motivational speaker, frequently presenting at prominent education and leadership conferences, including the National Association of Elementary School Principals, the National Association of Alternative Education, and the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence. In 2023, he was invited to speak at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.[5]

In addition to his work in education, Boyd is an author and singer-songwriter. His article, Eliminate Ping-pong Behavior: 3 Classroom Management Strategies That Will Inspire Confidence in Your Teachers, was published in 2015 by the National Association of Elementary School Principals.

In 2020, Boyd released the single "Heal the Land," which charted on the Billboard/Mediabase Gospel Charts. He also published a companion book, Heal the Land: A Blueprint to Spiritual Restoration. Boyd was also a contributing author to the 2023 book Your Deck of Success, edited by Rich Parsons and published by Perfect Publishing, which achieved #1 bestseller status on Amazon in the United States and Canada.
