Sriharsha Majety is an Indian entrepreneur and the co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Swiggy, one of India’s largest online food delivery platforms.[1] He is recognized as a key figure in the Indian startup ecosystem, having played a major role in building Swiggy into a household name in the country’s hyperlocal and on-demand delivery sector.[2] Majety’s leadership has been noted for driving the growth of food delivery startups in India and expanding Swiggy into adjacent services, including grocery and quick commerce.[3][4][5]
Early life and education
Majety was born in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India. He pursued his undergraduate studies in engineering at Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, where he specialized in electrical and electronics engineering. Following his graduation, Majety enrolled at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta, where he completed his MBA with a focus on finance and strategy.
Career
Early ventures
Majety began his professional career as a trader with Nomura International in London, working in financial markets and risk management. After returning to India, he briefly explored entrepreneurial ventures, including a logistics-focused project, which provided him with early exposure to technology-enabled business models.[6][7]
Swiggy
In 2014, Majety co-founded Swiggy along with Nandan Reddy and Rahul Jaimini in Bengaluru. The company started as a food delivery service connecting restaurants with customers through a mobile application.[8] Unlike many competitors at the time, Swiggy invested in building its own logistics network and delivery fleet, which ensured faster deliveries and greater reliability for both consumers and restaurants.[9][10]
Under Majety’s leadership as CEO, Swiggy quickly became one of the leading food delivery startups in India.[11] The platform expanded operations to multiple cities, backed by significant venture capital funding from investors such as Accel, Naspers (now Prosus), and SoftBank. Swiggy’s growth positioned it as a major competitor to other online food delivery companies in India, including Zomato.[12][13]
By the late 2010s, Swiggy diversified beyond restaurant food delivery into adjacent categories such as Swiggy Instamart, a grocery and essentials delivery service, and Swiggy Genie, a hyperlocal courier service. These initiatives placed Swiggy at the forefront of India’s quick commerce and hyperlocal delivery segment.[14]
Business strategy and leadership
Majety has emphasized customer-centric innovation, technology-driven logistics, and operational scalability as the cornerstones of Swiggy’s strategy. During his tenure, Swiggy has focused on building strong relationships with restaurants and delivery partners, while also investing in artificial intelligence and machine learning for supply chain optimization.[15][16]
Recognition
Majety has been featured in several business publications, including Forbes India, Economic Times, and Mint. He has been listed among leading Indian technology entrepreneurs and cited as one of the prominent young leaders reshaping India’s digital economy. In 2019, he was included in Fortune India’s 40 Under 40 list for his contribution to the startup and e-commerce industry in India.[17]
