Sola Adesakin (born June 10, 1980) is a Nigerian entrepreneur, accountant, investor, author, financial literacy advocate, and speaker who has over two decades of experience in the finance industry. As a Chartered Accountant, she has championed several SME finance projects and pioneered the creation of countless personal finance literacy resources in Nigeria and for Africans in the diaspora.[1][2] Adesakin is also a member of the Forbes Coaching Council.[3]

Adesakin is the founder of Smart Stewards Advisory Limited, a company that helps people and organisations attain financial freedom by offering a vast range of financial literacy programs and business management services. Adesakin has helped a lot of people around the world to achieve financial independence by utilizing financial education, and technology and creating for them access to both local and worldwide opportunities.[4]

Adesakin is a renowned author and has published many books and is also often seen speaking on industry-related topics at conferences, talk shows, and various media events. She has also featured in Tedx talks and spoken for companies, and both private and public universities across Nigeria.[5]

Early life and education

Adesakin was born on 10 June 1980 in Lagos, Nigeria, to a middle-class family. She completed her secondary school education at Immaculate Heart Comprehensive High School, Lagos.[6]

Sola Adesakin holds a BSc and an MBA degree from Oxford Brookes University and Edinburgh Business School, respectively.[7] She is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants of the United Kingdom (ACCA), and a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA). In addition, Sola Adesakin is also an NFEC Certified Financial Education Instructor℠.

She also holds a Certificate in Entrepreneurial Management from the Enterprise Development Centre of the Pan Atlantic University, Lagos Nigeria being a recipient of the WomenX Scholarship (A collaboration of World Bank and EDC).

Career

Adesakin started her career in 2001 as an accountant and has since worked in the pharmaceutical, manufacturing, architectural, not-for-profit/ philanthropic, educational-technology and fintech spaces.[8][9]

In 2011, Adesakin established FRUIT Foundation, an NGO that caters for the needs of underprivileged women and widows. Since then, she has been leading the team to bring to life their motto: helping and empowering women of different age brackets.[10]

In 2015, Adesakin began her entrepreneurial journey and established Smart Stewards, a financial services / fintech company dedicated to supporting people to attain financial stability by offering financial literacy and wealth building resources.[11] They continue to serve Africans at home and in the diaspora, currently in over 40 countries.[12]

Sola Adesakin has facilitated finance workshops, seminars, and conferences for government parastatals and private institutions. Her expertise in finance and business has earned her recognition from top companies around Africa. As a renowned finance professional, she shares her knowledge through insightful columns in national newspapers, global TV, including the BBC, as she provides valuable financial guidance to a wide audience.[13] Her contributions to the public domain have been widely recognized, with her articles and insights featured in reputable international media outlets such as Yahoo[14] and Forbes. She is a member of the Forbes Coaching Council and has published many articles for them.[3][15]

As of 2023, she is a Cherie Blair Foundation's Mentoring Women in Business Programme Mentor.
