Simone Vicari Moore is a Jamaican born actress, writer, producer, singer, educator. She is known for her recent appearance as Coretta Scott King in HBO’s late-night comedy Random Acts of Flyness (2018) and roles in American Broadcasting Company Boston Legal and CBS Studios Cold Case. Her Shakespeare performances, such as Lady Macbeth in Macbeth for Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles (2021), have earned her critical acclaim.
Early Life and Education
Born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Moore was raised in Brooklyn, New York. Moore was dancing and singing by the age of 5. In high school, she frequently went to Manhattan to perform in talent shows and modeling events, often performing from the catalogues of Sarah Vaughan and Billie Holiday.[1]
Simone received her Bachelors of the Arts from Brooklyn College and earned her Masters of Fine Arts from the University of California, San Diego, where she studied Theatre and Dance while working with master teachers like Des McAnuff, Darko Tresnjak, Fiona Shaw, and Lisa Harrow. She also completed study in Post Modern Literature and French Cinema at the University of Paris Sorbonne Nouvelle University Paris 3.
Career
Modeling
Moore began professionally modeling in New York as a hair and beauty model, she has done several collaborations with photographers like Barron Claiborne[2] after working in Paris, Les Bain Douche was a favorite. While working, she cultivated an interest in acting and went to pursue classical training at the University of California, San Diego.
Film
Simone’s film credits include Arc (2006), Belly 2: Millionaire Boyz Club (2006), Notorious (2009 film), as well as lead roles in The Prospects (2010) as Cherise[3] and Bea at Rehab (2021) as Denise[4] . Simone also appeared in Dreams Are Colder Than Death (2014) directed by Arthur Jafa with cinematography by Malik Hassan Sayeed, and produced by Kahlil Joseph (filmmaker).

Theatre
While at UCSD, Simone starred as Madeleine in La Jolla Playhouse’s 2003 production of Beauty, under the direction of Tina Landau[5]. Before graduating from UCSD, Moore began working off-Broadway at Classical Theatre of Harlem, where she played Lady Macduff in its production of Macbeth and Tomboy in Ain't Supposed to Die a Natural Death.
Thereafter, she moved to Los Angeles, where she starred in productions at Odyssey Theatre, Lillian Theatre, the Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles (SCLA), and The Black Dahlia Theatre. She received recognition for her roles as Sylvia in The Two Gentlemen of Verona (2006)[6][7], and Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream (2007), under the direction of Ben Donenberg at the Shakespeare Center Los Angeles.
Moore took the role of then-city councilwoman Letitia James in the 2010 production of In the Footprint, a critically acclaimed stageplay addressing gentrification in New York City, at The Civilians[8]. Simone also received praise for her work as Queen Gertrude in Hamlet for Shakes on Sound (2016), directed by Claire Kelly[9].
After some time away from the stage, Moore returned to the Los Angeles theatre scene in the role of Betty in Rogue Machine Theatre’s 2019 production of Gunshot Medley.
Upon recommendation by Diane Venora, Moore starred as Lady Macbeth alongside Keith David for The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles’ production of Macbeth in 2021[10]. Director Ben Donenberg approached the project as “entirely experimental,” merging the virtual production with a graphic novel format[11]. This was Moore’s third show with SCLA artistic director Ben Donenberg.

Television
Moore has had guest starring roles in Franklin & Bash on TNT, Boston Legal on ABC, Without a Trace on CBS, and All of Us on the CW. After a starring role in the ABC television movie Mrs. Washington Goes to Smith (2009), Simone moved to the CBS series Cold Case, where she appeared as Carmen Walters (2009).
After working with casting director Rick Pagano on the stage, Moore held a guest role on Boston Legal, then later another recurring role as Michaela in Jon Avnet’s Lauren, alongside Troian Bellisario and Bradley Whitford between 2012-2013.
Most recently, Simone has appeared in HBO’s Random Acts of Flyness as civil rights leader Coretta Scott King in 2018.

Writing and Production
In 2020, Moore’s one-woman play The Divorce Comedy: A Spiritual Study[15] premiered at the REDCAT’s New Original Works (NOW) Festival[16], marking her debut as a writer.
Awards
Moore was awarded the California Institute of the Arts REDCAT Grant for new and emerging artists in 2020, which funded the production of The Divorce Comedy[16].
Personal Life
In 2014, Moore took a hiatus from acting. She moved to New York, where she became the Founding Art Teacher for a network of charter schools in East Harlem[17]. Although she loved working with children, Moore was unhappy with her life away from acting and returned to Los Angeles in 2019.
