Shannon Houchins[1][2] (born October 29, 1969) is an American music and film producer, writer, director, comic book creator and financier. He is currently the CEO of both record label Average Joes Entertainment[3] and film & production company Hideout Pictures.[4][5] Houchins is credited for creating the music sub-genre “country-rap” along with artist Bubba Sparxxx. He is known for producing such artists as Colt Ford, Montgomery Gentry and many more as well as producing such films as Old Henry[6] (2021), Jay and Silent Bob Reboot[7] (2019) and Howard’s Mill[8] (2021).

Early life

Shannon was born in Winter Haven, Florida but moved to Valdosta, Georgia when he was nine years old. In 1993, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia where Houchins worked for Jermaine Dupri's So So Def Recordings[9] as a staff producer, producing remixes for such acts as TLC (group), Usher (musician) and Jagged Edge (American group). In 2000, Shannon founded his own production company 11th Hour Entertainment with Doug Kaye. Here Houchins discovered and produced rapper Bubba Sparxxx, eventually landing the artist at Interscope Records where Shannon produced Sparxxx's debut album "Dark Days, Bright Nights" with Timbaland.

Career

In 2006, Houchins started the record label Average Joes Entertainment with flagship artist and co-founder Colt Ford where they not only launched the career of Ford but also Brantley Gilbert, The Lacs, Demun Jones and more. Average Joes also have released albums from veteran artists Montgomery Gentry, Nappy Roots, Josh Gracin and more as well as managed such artists as Tyler Farr, Sister Hazel and Gaelic Storm. In 2012, Houchins launched a Film & Television division Hideout Pictures[10][11] with director Potsy Ponciroli. Since its inception Shannon has produced several movies and television shows such as the Tim Blake Nelson[12] starring Old Henry[13] (2021) that made its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, Kevin Smith's Jay and Silent Bob Reboot[14] (2019), and Howard's Mill[15] (2021) of which Houchins also co-wrote and directed. Television projects include CMT's Still The King[16][17] (2015-2017) starring Billy Ray Cyrus and Joey Lauren Adams and AXS's Music's Greatest Mysteries (2020-present).
