Satyendra Nath Ghosal[1][2] // (▶listen) (Bengali language|বাংলা: সত্যেন্দ্র নাথ ঘোষাল, Satyendra Nath Ghosal alias Baidyanath Ghosal) (4 January 1908 - 23 January 1980) was an Indian revolutionary associated with Jugantar Group of Revolutionaries and Anushilan Samiti who carried out assassinations against British Raj|British colonial officials in an attempt to secure Indian independence movement|Indian independence and worked with Prafulla Chandra Sen (Ex - Chief minister|Chief Minister of West Bengal) during Indian independence movement|Freedom Fighting Movement. His revolutionary work was under the leadership of Kiran Shankar Roy (Ex - Home Minister of West Bengal)

Early Life

Satyendra Nath Ghoshal was born in Sthhalbasantapur, Pabna District in Bengal Presidency of British India (Present Bangladesh) on 4th January 1908. His Father's Name was Narendranath Ghosal and Mother's Name was Hemnalini Devi. He was the elder son of his family. He did not joined the college because he wanted to took part in Indian Freedom Struggle.

Revolutionary Activities

Satyendra was a member of Jugantar and Anushilan Samiti and was expert in looting the mail van of British Empire|British. However Police caught many members of the Jugantar|Juganatar group including him. He was also blocked to enter his birth place i.e. Pabna District.

Life In Jail

Satyendra was first time arrested at the age of 19 and was sent to Hijli Jail (Present IIT Kharagpur|Kharagpur IIT). He was arrested several times and was subjected to brutal torture in Central Jail. Later, he was released.

Married Life

Satyendra was married to Ramaprabha Devi at the age of 35. They have 4 sons & 2 daughters those who are settled in different place of Howrah, West Bengal.

Later Life

In 1941, He shifted from Pabna District to Nilfamari, Dinajpur District, Bangladesh|Dinajpur and then shifted to Serpentine Lane, Bowbazar, Kolkata|Calcutta in 1943. Again he shifted to Liluah, Howrah and then started to stay permanenty at Belgachia (No. 3, H. Road, Villa was known as Halder Bari) in same district. Due to 1946 Hindus|Hindu - Muslims|Muslim Riot, most of his family members shifted from Pabna to nowadays West Bengal & scattered their settlements in various places of West Bengal like Murshidabad, Nadia district|Nadia (Madanpur, India|Madanpur) & Hooghly district|Hoogly (Srirampur). After getting independence during the Chief Ministry of Prafulla Chandra Sen, He took the job, as a Sub-Inspector in Food & Supply Department, Under Government of West Bengal. His hobby was Gardening, Fishing etc.

Awards

In 1972 (25 Years of Independence), Satyendra was honoured with Tamrapatra[3] for his devotional contribution in Indian Freedom Struggle from the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi|Indira Gandhi.
