Sashidhar Jagdishan is an Indian corporate executive who currently serves as the Managing Director and CEO of HDFC Bank.[1] In 2020, following the retirement of Aditya Puri, the Reserve Bank of India approved Sashidhar Jagdishan as the Managing Director and CEO of HDFC Bank. Puri had held this position for 26 years, and Jagdishan's appointment affirmed his exceptional capabilities and deep understanding of the bank's operations.[2] In the fiscal year 2023, Sashidhar Jagdishan gained recognition as the highest-paid bank chief executive in India, with a substantial increase of over 62% in his remuneration.[3]
Early Life and Education
Born and raised in Mumbai, India, Sashidhar spent his early years in the peaceful suburb of Matunga. He attended Don Bosco High School for his secondary education. Jagdishan holds a Bachelor's degree in Science with a specialization in Physics from Mumbai University. Additionally, he is a qualified Chartered Accountant, showcasing his financial expertise. His pursuit of knowledge continued with the attainment of a Master's degree in Economics of Money, Banking, and Finance from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom.[4][5]
Career
Sashidhar Jagdishan has an impressive professional track record spanning over three decades. Of these, he has dedicated 24 years to HDFC Bank, making him a significant contributor to the bank's journey. Sashidhar commenced his professional journey with HDFC Bank in 1996 when he joined as a manager in the finance department. His strategic vision and dedication to the bank's growth led to progressively more significant roles. In 1999, Jagdishan assumed the position of Business Head - Finance, followed by his appointment as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of HDFC Bank in 2008.[2]
Sashidhar's career advancement continued, and in 2019, he took on the role of 'Change Agent of the Bank.' This responsibility included oversight of crucial functions such as Legal and Secretarial, Human Resources, Corporate Communication, Infrastructure & Administration, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). With his extensive experience, Jagdishan has played a pivotal role in shaping the bank's operational strategies and maintaining its financial stability.[2]
Before joining HDFC Bank, Sashidhar served in the financial sector with a three-year tenure at Deutsche Bank, AG in Mumbai.[6]
